What can I say about this book, but wow!! If you are looking for a edgy, sexy read with a suspense this is the book for you. Tony is trying to find The Serpent, a man who kidnapped him as a child and murdered his Uncle and Mom. When he gets a lead that takes him to a private island he has to call in a debt to find a woman to go with him. After all, no single man can access this island. Emma has just recently started working for Stark Security and doesn't just want to just strut around in a bikini. After Tony convinces her to go with him the two leave soon as partners. The island is not your typical island, but one where you go for sexual pleasure. The two can't help the chemistry and lust that's pulsating between them and while looking for clues about The Serpent start learning more about each other and start falling for the other.
Emma and Tony both have tortured pasts and both feel like they don't need a partner. There are some overlays in their past that could push them away from each other or to each other. I thought they handled everything that came to them pretty well. I think J. Kenner did a great job balancing the erotica with the story line so that this book was both sexy and still a great story. I will be reading more of the Stark Security Series. This book can be read as a standalone.

The world is a fucked up place.
That was probably the first lesson I learned in life. A hard-taught lesson when he’d yell at me or slap me. Or worse.

But “supposed to” is only the truth in a fairy tale world. We lived in the real world, my sister and me. And when it got to be too much—when there was nothing and no one we could turn to except each other—that’s when we ran.

And I learned a long time ago not to trust anyone but myself and my sister.
Because the people who are supposed to protect you will fail you. And the people who are supposed to love you can just as easily be monsters.
But lately, things have started to shift. My world is opening, and people are surprising me. I’m letting down my guard; I’m letting people in.
It’s a mistake, and I know it. Because now he’s come into my life.
And though I know I need to keep my distance—though I know damn well that
he’s going to hurt my heart—I can’t help but slide down that hill toward him, terrified all the while that he won’t be strong enough to catch me.
And even more scared that he will.
