My Review:

My Rating: 3 Stars

This was a cute book full of short novellas from a bunch of different authors. There was almost every trope represented in this book with steam, humor and swoothyness. Some of these stories are prelude to new novels coming out in the coming years and some of these are bonus scenes of other books the authors have written. If you are looking for a few short stories to read because you don't have time to read a full novel I would suggest reading this. I don't want to give away too much of the storylines, but some of the stories I really enjoyed while others just weren't the right fit for me. The great thing about this book is that 100% of the profits are going to charity!

Meet Willow

I started writing after having my little girl, Evie, December of 2015. All during my pregnancy with her I read. I only wanted to read romance novels and I read everything I could get my hands on. I would read a book a day -- sometimes two. In January I was staying up late with her and just thinking of all these stories. They came to me constantly. I finally sat down and just started writing. I always wanted to do it so I figured, why not?

I never thought I would reach this point of success to be honest. It's insane to me that I have connected with so many readers.

And I love each and every one of them for all of their support. I'll be honest, some days are HARD. I have my littles during the day and I write at night. Some days are just simply exhausting and then I hear from a reader and it motivates me to push through and keep writing. I couldn't be more grateful for this wonderful career.

Mistletoe Wishes- Blog Tour, Review and Excerpt

Mistletoe Wishes, an all-new steamy holiday read from JJ Carlson, is available now!

BLURB:

The last thing Keaton wants is to be stuck in the small town his father owns for the holidays. The only thing he detests more than Christmas is small towns that make a big deal over the holiday. Especially a holiday Keaton associates with his mother’s death.

Keaton plans to get rid of his father’s investment as quickly as possible, but what he doesn’t expect is to get tangled in tinsel with the beautiful Harper—a feisty little baker who is determined to push his limits.

Harper wants nothing more than to make her bakery, Mistletoe Wishes, a successful franchise. She’s worked hard to get to where she is today and isn’t about to let anything—or anyone—stand in her way. With relationships and romance being at the bottom of her list, Harper finds herself in unfamiliar territory when she meets the sexy Keaton Snow. His aversion and distaste for Christmas and her home town are the only things she doesn’t find attractive about him.

Will Keaton open his heart up to Harper and let the joy of the season, and a promise of a future, deter his plans to sell the town he grew up resenting?

My Review:

My Rating: 3 Stars

This was a cute Christmas story and the debut of author J.J. Carlson. Keaton Snow has decided to visit the small town his father owns and try to decide what he wants to do with the Inn that resides there. Harper owns a  bakery in town and is looking to start a franchise. She would love to put one of her bakeries in the inn. When the two unexpectedly meet there is begrudging attraction and the two are thrown together when Harper is asked to be his guide around the Inn. Can Harper turn this grinch into someone who loves Christmas? Will Keaton change his mind about his future plans?

This was a cute Christmas tale that I could see being made into a movie on Lifetime. It has the small town charm, Christmas cheer and a little too much heat for Hallmark. I felt the author rushed a few things and wish they would have focused more on showing the sparks from Harper and Keaton rather than telling, however it was a cute story.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

EXCERPT:

My eyes move down to her pouty pink lips, where it lingers for a bit longer than it should. I’m glad when a knock on the door breaks the spell this woman has me under. I don’t know what it is about her, but there is something.

“Just in time,” she says happily, handing me her decoration. She opens the door, and a staff member pushes in a tray. She thanks the woman at the door, and wheels the tray inside, before shutting the door behind her.

“What is all this?” I ask in wonderment.

“Cookies, because we didn’t have any this morning, eggnog and some warm apple cider—extra kick. I wasn’t sure which you would prefer.”

“Both.” I grin and swipe a cookie off the tray. I groan in delight as it melts in my mouth. “Now, this here is a mouth-watering cookie,” I say looking her up and down in the process. And the cookies were mouth-watering, but so was Harper. I notice the scarlet flush creeping across her cheeks.

“Get your mind out of the gutter, Harper.” I tease.

“What?” She giggles, and I swear it’s my new favorite sound. She lifts her mug of eggnog, so I do the same. I clink my glass to hers, taking a sip of the best eggnog I have ever tasted.

After I’ve eaten too many cookies, she gives me the rundown of how and where to place the decorations after I string up the lights. She warns me that she is the creative genius behind this process, and any urge to change things will not be tolerated.

I have never laughed so hard in my life. When we’re intoxicated from the cider, I wrap some tinsel around her neck and playfully pull her closer. There’s a flash of alarm, followed by a twinkle of lust in her eyes, and I feel my throat constrict. I should kiss her, and finally taste those luscious lips of hers that I've craved since that first night stranded in the snow.

“I’m dizzy.” She giggles, suddenly pulling away from me. Her absence leaves me longing with an impulse to pull her close to me again. To smell the vanilla scent of her hair.

We sit at the foot of my bed and stare up at what I concede to be the most beautiful tree I have ever laid eyes on. I may be sitting on the floor of a lodge in an ugly sweater, but I have never had this much fun. I glance her way and decide that Harper Clifford is the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes upon. Ever.

“This is the best part,” she says, her eyes twinkling when she looks at the lights.

“Sitting down after a job well done and being able to appreciate your creation and handiwork.”

“We make a pretty good team.” I lean slightly and nudge her shoulder.

“That we do.” She looks up at me with a smile so bright it makes me feel warm inside. I can’t remember the last time I felt this way, not with my family, nor with Ana.

Being here in this small town in the middle of nowhere with a woman who is as gorgeous as she is smart, I realize I have never truly felt at peace until this moment. I also know that I have to be honest with her about everything.

“What would you do if you weren’t a hotshot businessman?” she asks casually.

I look away from her, then back. “I’d write books.”

“Yeah?” She turns a little toward me. “What kind of books?”

“Tragic love stories.” I smile at her. Maybe, I’d write stories about women like her and men like me who meet at the wrong time in their lives.

“Why not the smutty kind?” She bites down on the corner of her lip. Holy fuck!

Maybe I’d write about what I’d like to do to that pretty little mouth. I have to look away.

“Harper, I should tell you—” She looks up at me, and for a second, I believe in miracles. She closes the distance, her lips brushing against mine. There is an undercurrent of pure unbridled desire, but it’s mixed with something else. She lowers onto her knees beside me, her eyes holding mine hostage. Small hands cradle my face, and the sweet scent of her is intoxicating. I want to lean in closer, watch her unravel beneath me, explore every curve of her body in front of the fireplace. She is perfect, everything I want but I don’t deserve. Her eyes flutter closed. The urge to kiss her is so strong. I pull her closer to me, but instead of kissing her, I hold her to my chest. I can feel her breathing quicken, as she tenses in my arms.

“I’m sorry,” she says, pulling away from me. She stands, and I lean my hands on my knees, watching her walk away. I should go after her and explain, but I find myself looking up at the tree, getting lost in all the reasons I shouldn’t. Maybe I’m a coward.

Perhaps I’m a fool. One thing I am not is the man who deserves a woman like Harper.

Best Friend's Don't Kiss-Review and Excerpt

BLURB:

Goal: Find a boyfriend, get married, buy a house in the suburbs with a white picket fence, and pop out 2.5 kids.

Deadline: Sixty days.

That’s possible, right?

HAHAHA. *Faints*

I’m kidding. Well, kind of. I mean, I’m not going to attempt a shotgun wedding or try to get knocked up by some guy I met on the internet, but there is no doubt that, this year, home for the holidaystakes on a whole new, terrifying meaning.

I have to travel from New York City—my home and safe haven for the last fifteen years—to my tiny hometown in Vermont for Christmas, my baby sister’s wedding, and my high school reunion.

Talk about a trifecta of single-doom.

Throw in Callie Camden—aka my high school class’s version of Regina George—and it’s a recipe for certified disaster.

Especially since my mouth ran away from me when she asked me if I’d be bringing someone to our reunion, and I told her to put me down for two.

Gah. Now I can’t go alone.

But the online dating world is a cesspool of bad manners, speedy hookups, and outright weirdos.

Handsome, single, successful—that’s what I’m looking for.

And it just so happens that my best friend Luke London fits all of the criteria.

The only problem is best friends don’t kiss…

But maybe it doesn’t count if it’s pretend?

My Review:
My Rating: 4.5 Stars

Ava and Luke meet as Freshmen at Columbia University and become friends right away. 15 years later they are still BFF's and even live in the same apartment building. Ava is the last single woman in her family and her mom and aunts can't help but try to play matchmaker for her. Throw in a high school reunion, an old rival, an accidental slip of the tongue and now Ava needs a date to take home for her sister's wedding and high school reunion.

This was a hilarious, holiday, slow burn book for anyone who needs a little Christmas cheer. Ava and Luke have both at times always had feelings for the other, but they were never single at the same time. There were times I wish Ava would stand up for herself, but I was always glad when Luke defended her. I truly enjoyed that they both had their own dreams and aspirations and supported each other in those journeys. Luke was sweet, sexy and overall a great guy. I enjoyed Ava's aunts, who brought lots of humor to the story. I also enjoyed seeing the billionaire boys from Max Monroe's other books.

Excerpt

Ava

I only get two steps toward my door when my phone starts ringing from inside my purse. I dig it back out again to find an unknown number with a Vermont area code flashing on the screen.

I know I should let it roll to voice mail, but Aunt Poppy called me from jail one time, and I never heard the end of how I wasted her one phone call by not answering.

Reluctantly, I hit the green button and put it to my ear.

“Ava! It’s Callie!”

Damn Aunt Poppy and her fascination with streaking!

“Oh, uh…hi, Callie…”

“Sorry to bother you, but I had one more question to ask, and since I now have your number, I figured I’d just call you really quick!”

Greattt. “Sure thing,” I say with saccharine sweetness.

“Since I have to finalize the head count for the venue by tomorrow, I need to know if I should just put you down as a single,” she begins. “Pretty sure your mom told me you weren’t married or engaged or dating anyone, but I just want to double-check that you’re still single. Honestly, I think you’re one of only ten people from our high school that isn’t married yet!” she exclaims through an amused giggle.

I put my phone on speaker, drop it down on my entry table, and give it the double finger with as much gusto as I can manage.

Obviously unaware of my display, she continues. “So crazy that most of us have reached the age where we’re married, and some with kids now. Which, by the way, I can’t believe your baby sister Kate is getting married before you. Soon, you’re going to be the only single Lucie left!”

My tongue is tied by an imaginary angry fist, but it doesn’t matter. One of the only positive qualities Callie possesses is the ability to carry on an entire conversation herself.

“By the way, you’re the best for helping me plan the reunion!”

“That’s me.” The best people-pleasing lunatic in NYC who really should look into finding a good therapist to help me work through all of this before I have to head home to Vermont to watch my baby sister get married in the same week I get to attend a fifteen-year high school reunion I somehow got roped into helping plan. With the Regina George of my high school class. In less than two short months from now.

Okay. So, I don’t need to find a therapist; I need to find Jesus. I just hope he lives in Manhattan.

“So…one or two?” Callie asks, pulling me from the deep recesses of my thoughts.

“One or two?”

She giggles again. It’s like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. “How many people should I put you down for, silly?”

This is a remake of Nightmare on Elm Street; it has to be. A new Halloween movie or something. Michael Myers himself must be right outside my freaking door.

That’s the only way the universe would be cruel enough to add Callie’s interest into the swirling, boiling pot my family already has roasting over the Ava’s Relationship Status fire.

Just like that, it hits me. I cannot go to this reunion and attend my baby sister’s wedding alone in the same damn week. I just…can’t.

I completely break under the fucking pressure of it all, and the words blurt from my lips before I can stop them. “Two.”

“Two?”

“Uh…yeah… I’ll be bringing my…boyfriend.”

You’ll be…what? You don’t have a boyfriend, Looney Tunes!

“Your boyfriend? Oh, how exciting! Your mom didn’t tell me you were seeing someone!”

“It’s…uh…fairly new.”

Yeah, it sure is. It hasn’t even fucking started yet…

Thinking better of my answer, I add to it quickly before Callie can undercut it. “But serious. Really serious, actually. We’ve just been keeping it private so we can enjoy the perfectness by ourselves for a while.”

Dear God, Ava.

“That’s so awesome! What’s his name?”

Yeah, Ava! Tell your old archnemesis all about your imaginary boyfriend!

Panic sets in when I realize there is absolutely no way I can talk myself out of this conversation. So, I do what anyone in my situation would do—avoid it.

Three bangs of my fist to my own freaking door, I end the call in a rush, “Oh shoot, Callie! I have to go. My boyfriend just got here, and we’re already late for a big, fancy Halloween party in SoHo. Talk soon! Bye!” Click.

It’s official. I’m pathetic.

I might as well be Debra Messing’s character in The Wedding Date.

Sure, my sister didn’t have an affair with my ex while I was still dating him, but she is my baby sister whose impending nuptials will make me the oldest and last single Lucie sister. And now, because I let Callie fucking Camden get the best of me with her backhanded bullshit, I told the snooty biotch that I have a boyfriend and I’d help plan the reunion.

Oy vey.

Call me crazy, but I highly doubt I can find a hot, Dermot-Mulroney-looking escort in under sixty days.

You know, you could just be an adult about this and tell Callie how you really feel—that you don’t have a boyfriend and you don’t want to help plan that stupid reunion with someone who was a total bitch to you in high school…

That would certainly be the easy way out, wouldn’t it?

Too bad my damn pride is making that feel like an impossible option.

On a heavy sigh, I drop my phone back in my purse, sling my bag over my shoulder, snag the stupid invitation off the counter, head straight out of my apartment, and stride right across the hall, barging through my best friend’s unlocked front door.

I swear, one of the best things Luke and I ever did was rent apartments in the same building—and on the same floor—from his rich uncle Gary. It makes freak-out moments like this a heck of a lot easier to handle.

My go-go boots pound across the hardwood floors as I make a beeline past Luke—who is standing in his living room—dump my purse, and head straight for the kitchen.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Where’s the fire?” he says on a laugh. “Please tell me you haven’t gone old-school and brought a hot plate into your apartment.”

“Funny ha-ha, Luke,” I retort but keep it moving to the fridge. “The fire is my life. Everything is shit, I need a drink, and I’m pretty sure we’re already late to the party!”
