Penelope and Beckham have been best friends since they were little. Beckham comes from a broken rich family while Penelope has 4 older brothers and parents who are still together. Beckham and Penelope end up sharing a scorching kiss and then Beckham freaks and they don't see each other for a while. Beckham comes back and wants to get his friendship back with Penelope but she's not going to make it easy on him. As the two hang out more and Penelope is looking to date, Beckham is not happy about having to share Penelope with other guys and comes up with a solution. They will be friends with benefits for time. Penelope thinks it will help her with her sexual drought, but Beckham wants to see if maybe they could be more than just best friends. 

This was a cute story and it is part of a series that can be read as standalones. Penelope is the baby and only daughter and I think her brother's books are the other ones in the series. I did not read the other books before reading this one and I kinda wish I would have because I think I missed some pieces of her family that might have made me connect more to the characters. I did enjoy seeing Penelope and her brothers and Beckham's relationship with her brother's too. I didn't feel super connected to Penelope and that might be affecting my rating although I was so glad she wasn't a pushover in the beginning of the story. I felt bad for Beckham and really enjoyed seeing his character arc. I thought the extended epilogue was a little too much, but again if I had read the other books in the series I might have enjoyed it more. Towards the end I do feel like the author's rushed a few things. Again, this is just my opinion and other people on Goodreads loved it so please look at other reviews and see if maybe this one will fit more into what you would like.

Lizzie and Garrett have been best friends for years and when they are both single are sometimes friends with benefits. However, the last time they hung out Garrett told her he wanted more and Lizzie freaked and said she needed more time. 12 weeks later and Lizzie is now freaking out and pregnant. How do you tell your best friend he's going to be a dad? Also, does he still want everything with her? T

This was a cute story. I felt for both Lizzie and Garrett. Lizzie was scared of losing Garrett and facing her feelings for him when she left, but after leaving him and then becoming pregnant she realized she wanted a life and a family with Garett. Garett was scared to get hurt again by Lizzie and finding out he was going to be a father was a big deal. I felt the author did a great way of handling the pregnancy and the reactions were very real. I also loved the banter between the two and the communication that they learned to have through the book. If you love accidental pregnancies, hockey, no ow or om drama, friends to lovers than this book is for you! I can't wait to read more about the other Viper Hockey players.

Renley and Abby were childhood best friends until Renly's parents divorced and he moved away. Abby had a crush on him, but never told him. Now that she is working with Nikki Fairchild Stark as a Tech Genius when she starts to get a stalker. The assigned agent is Renley and the two pick up as best friends right where they left off even though it has been years since they have seen each other. Renley just does friends with benefits but Abby is more of a relationship girl. After one night together will Renley see how good they can be together or stick with his rules of no attachment?

This was a cute, short story that can easily be read in one sitting. I liked it, but I wanted more between Renley and Abby. It felt like their crushes came rushing back as soon as they saw each other and this felt like to me an insta-love book. I am not one for insta-love, but I can understand the insta-lust angle. I would have liked to see more talks about their time apart. Their relationship building just felt too simple. I did enjoy the stalker part of the storyline though. Overall, if you are looking to see how J.  Kenner's writing style is, but don't want to read a full length novel this is a good book to start if you like the insta love trope.

EXCERPT:

In the rearview mirror, I watch as he gets off the bike, then walks toward me across the lot. I get out and meet him at the rear of the car.

“I haven’t got a single quarter,” he says. “Do you?”

I laugh. “Not a one. But I do have a credit card.” I’m about to walk over to that side and start the system running, but he gets there first, sliding in his card and then grinning at me as the machinery starts rumbling.

This particular car wash has a hose on each side of the stall. I’ve always assumed that was so that you don’t have to drag a dirty hose over your newly cleaned half in order to wash the other side. Now I consider another purpose.

Renly apparently has the same thought, because I see the gleam in his eyes as he goes to the far side, then grabs the coiled hose, his hand poised on the nozzle.

“Don’t you even think about it,” I say, going for my own hose.

His eyes widen, all innocent and guileless. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

I burst out laughing. Then, still laughing, I pull the trigger on my own hose and spray him, accidentally getting him full-on in the crotch.

“Seriously?” he says. “Sweetheart, you are so going to pay for that.”

“Phhbbt.” I dance away from the spray he aims at me. “I would have thought someone in the military would have a faster reaction time.”

He aims again, and this time manages to completely soak the T-shirt I’d worn to work this morning. “Hey!” I protest. “This is a genuine discount bin Old Navy T-shirt.

How dare you defile it?”

“Well, it fits you very nicely,” he says, letting his eyes skim over me in what I know is an exaggerated leer.

I glance down, realizing that since I knew I was going to be the only one in the office today, I hadn’t bothered to wear a bra. That’s something I can usually get away with, but in a wet T-shirt, even my barely-B-cup breasts look pretty perky.

I roll my eyes. “Perv.”

“I apologize for nothing.”

 Jillian needs to find a date to take home for her exes wedding. Enter her best friend, Klaus, who has been in love with her for years. Can Klaus prove they could work as more than just friends? I enjoyed how the author wrote the friendship between Jillian and Klaus. You could tell they truly knew and cared about the other. There were some well written moments of Jillian having problems with her family that made the book more realistic. We don't always get along or understand our parents. I was glad that Klaus had Jillian's back and let her think things through when she needed to. He was just there if she needed someone to talk to. He let her guide the way through everything. I liked this story, but I did feel like it was missing something for me. I just can't pinpoint what that is though. It had sweet moments, heat, drama and a little humor. If you like the trope friends to lovers you would probably like this book.

“What?” I mean, that was Becca’s plan, but I still hadn’t decided if I was going to ask Klaus.

“Are you sure?” I take a small sip. Too much wine will go straight to my head. My appetite still hasn’t returned since Saturday, mostly because I’ve been dreading this moment. “Because it’s not just a date, I mean, it is, but we’d have to act in love and all that stuff.”

Klaus laughs and pushes off his stool. “I do understand the general idea of being a boyfriend and what that entails.”

A warm, calloused, and gorgeous hand covers mine, forcing both my hand and the avocado oil glass bottle to the counter.

“Look at me.”

Ava and Luke meet as Freshmen at Columbia University and become friends right away. 15 years later they are still BFF's and even live in the same apartment building. Ava is the last single woman in her family and her mom and aunts can't help but try to play matchmaker for her. Throw in a high school reunion, an old rival, an accidental slip of the tongue and now Ava needs a date to take home for her sister's wedding and high school reunion.

This was a hilarious, holiday, slow burn book for anyone who needs a little Christmas cheer. Ava and Luke have both at times always had feelings for the other, but they were never single at the same time. There were times I wish Ava would stand up for herself, but I was always glad when Luke defended her. I truly enjoyed that they both had their own dreams and aspirations and supported each other in those journeys. Luke was sweet, sexy and overall a great guy. I enjoyed Ava's aunts, who brought lots of humor to the story. I also enjoyed seeing the billionaire boys from Max Monroe's other books.

Ava

I only get two steps toward my door when my phone starts ringing from inside my purse. I dig it back out again to find an unknown number with a Vermont area code flashing on the screen.

I know I should let it roll to voice mail, but Aunt Poppy called me from jail one time, and I never heard the end of how I wasted her one phone call by not answering.

Reluctantly, I hit the green button and put it to my ear.

“Ava! It’s Callie!”

Damn Aunt Poppy and her fascination with streaking!

“Oh, uh…hi, Callie…”

“Sorry to bother you, but I had one more question to ask, and since I now have your number, I figured I’d just call you really quick!”

Greattt. “Sure thing,” I say with saccharine sweetness.

“Since I have to finalize the head count for the venue by tomorrow, I need to know if I should just put you down as a single,” she begins. “Pretty sure your mom told me you weren’t married or engaged or dating anyone, but I just want to double-check that you’re still single. Honestly, I think you’re one of only ten people from our high school that isn’t married yet!” she exclaims through an amused giggle.

I put my phone on speaker, drop it down on my entry table, and give it the double finger with as much gusto as I can manage.

Obviously unaware of my display, she continues. “So crazy that most of us have reached the age where we’re married, and some with kids now. Which, by the way, I can’t believe your baby sister Kate is getting married before you. Soon, you’re going to be the only single Lucie left!”

My tongue is tied by an imaginary angry fist, but it doesn’t matter. One of the only positive qualities Callie possesses is the ability to carry on an entire conversation herself.

“By the way, you’re the best for helping me plan the reunion!”

“That’s me.” The best people-pleasing lunatic in NYC who really should look into finding a good therapist to help me work through all of this before I have to head home to Vermont to watch my baby sister get married in the same week I get to attend a fifteen-year high school reunion I somehow got roped into helping plan. With the Regina George of my high school class. In less than two short months from now.

Okay. So, I don’t need to find a therapist; I need to find Jesus. I just hope he lives in Manhattan.

“So…one or two?” Callie asks, pulling me from the deep recesses of my thoughts.

“One or two?”

She giggles again. It’s like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. “How many people should I put you down for, silly?”

This is a remake of Nightmare on Elm Street; it has to be. A new Halloween movie or something. Michael Myers himself must be right outside my freaking door.

That’s the only way the universe would be cruel enough to add Callie’s interest into the swirling, boiling pot my family already has roasting over the Ava’s Relationship Status fire.

Just like that, it hits me. I cannot go to this reunion and attend my baby sister’s wedding alone in the same damn week. I just…can’t.

I completely break under the fucking pressure of it all, and the words blurt from my lips before I can stop them. “Two.”

“Two?”

“Uh…yeah… I’ll be bringing my…boyfriend.”

You’ll be…what? You don’t have a boyfriend, Looney Tunes!

“Your boyfriend? Oh, how exciting! Your mom didn’t tell me you were seeing someone!”

“It’s…uh…fairly new.”

Yeah, it sure is. It hasn’t even fucking started yet…

Thinking better of my answer, I add to it quickly before Callie can undercut it. “But serious. Really serious, actually. We’ve just been keeping it private so we can enjoy the perfectness by ourselves for a while.”

Dear God, Ava.

“That’s so awesome! What’s his name?”

Yeah, Ava! Tell your old archnemesis all about your imaginary boyfriend!

Panic sets in when I realize there is absolutely no way I can talk myself out of this conversation. So, I do what anyone in my situation would do—avoid it.

Three bangs of my fist to my own freaking door, I end the call in a rush, “Oh shoot, Callie! I have to go. My boyfriend just got here, and we’re already late for a big, fancy Halloween party in SoHo. Talk soon! Bye!” Click.

It’s official. I’m pathetic.

I might as well be Debra Messing’s character in The Wedding Date.

Sure, my sister didn’t have an affair with my ex while I was still dating him, but she is my baby sister whose impending nuptials will make me the oldest and last single Lucie sister. And now, because I let Callie fucking Camden get the best of me with her backhanded bullshit, I told the snooty biotch that I have a boyfriend and I’d help plan the reunion.

Oy vey.

Call me crazy, but I highly doubt I can find a hot, Dermot-Mulroney-looking escort in under sixty days.

You know, you could just be an adult about this and tell Callie how you really feel—that you don’t have a boyfriend and you don’t want to help plan that stupid reunion with someone who was a total bitch to you in high school…

That would certainly be the easy way out, wouldn’t it?

Too bad my damn pride is making that feel like an impossible option.

On a heavy sigh, I drop my phone back in my purse, sling my bag over my shoulder, snag the stupid invitation off the counter, head straight out of my apartment, and stride right across the hall, barging through my best friend’s unlocked front door.

I swear, one of the best things Luke and I ever did was rent apartments in the same building—and on the same floor—from his rich uncle Gary. It makes freak-out moments like this a heck of a lot easier to handle.

My go-go boots pound across the hardwood floors as I make a beeline past Luke—who is standing in his living room—dump my purse, and head straight for the kitchen.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Where’s the fire?” he says on a laugh. “Please tell me you haven’t gone old-school and brought a hot plate into your apartment.”

“Funny ha-ha, Luke,” I retort but keep it moving to the fridge. “The fire is my life. Everything is shit, I need a drink, and I’m pretty sure we’re already late to the party!”

“Don’t play that crap with me, Sean Arrowood. I know you better. You want the wife and kids. You always have. The issue that you have is that you’re stupid.”

“Stupid?”

Griffin was Jolie's brothers best friend growing up. Jolie and Griffin were friends until their feelings grew into something more. Griffin did not have the best home life and because of that he was at Jolie's house quite a bit. After a tragedy strikes both Jolie and Griffin return home, but will Jolie understand why Griffin had to leave and will Griffin even tell her why he left? This is a second chance romance book with a lot of drama. I felt the author did a lot of telling about their relationship instead of showing until later on in the book. Jolie has gone through a lot in the 10 years since they parted and both Jolie and Griffin are broken. There were a few parts I was surprised happened, but most of it felt predictable. I did like that this was dual P.O.V. so we saw both sides to the story. I also enjoyed the epilogue and it hints the next story will be Jolie's brother.
This is an angsty second chance romance book.



EXCERPT

I throw my head back, laughing and happy that playful Jojo is back. “I remember the first time we kissed,” I say, looking into her eyes. She swallows. Her earlier playfulness falls away and is replaced with a serious, heated stare. “I remember the first time we danced.” My finger caresses the bare skin of her shoulder, and her green eyes go from shining emerald to a dark forest green.

“Griff,” she whispers a warning.

“I want to kiss you so bad.” My voice is gruff and filled with a need that far outweighs any craving for gelato. I don’t wait for her answer because the way she watches me has me undone.

My lips press to hers slowly, a soft caress, a begging for permission. Her fingers come up and rake through my hair, tugging me closer. My tongue peeks from my mouth, begging entrance to hers as she opens willingly.

The kiss is slow and testing at first. I’m scared of pushing too hard and having her pull away. She says she doesn’t want more, but the chemistry between us beats alive and strong. Her taste sets my body on fire as a million memories come crashing through my mind. Electricity sparks inside me, making me feel alive for the first time in what feels like forever. And now, with a simple kiss, I have come undone. My lonely heart beats in time with hers. My thumb brushes over the pulse point in her neck, and it thumps wild like mine.

“Jolie,” I say her name like a prayer.

“What are we doing?” she murmurs into my mouth.

“What feels right,” I answer into hers. Primal instinct begs me to take her on this kitchen counter and make her mine. My fingers pull at her scalp and she moans into my mouth, and my hard-on pulses to her sweet noises. The kiss intensifies until we are both breathless and panting when suddenly, she pulls away from me, pressing her hands to my shoulders.
