Misadventures with a Manny

Synopsis: Goodreads

Vera Woods is at her wit’s end.

Her husband has run off with the nanny, leaving Vera with a broken heart, three very angry sons, and even less time to juggle the demands of family and her career. After her boys scare away a sixth replacement nanny, Vera is out of time off from work and desperately out of options. Still nursing an aching heart, she turns to an unlikely source for help―a manny.

Lincoln Scott is no stranger to family chaos. But rather than grow jaded, he has thrown his natural talents into building his own business―providing live-in childcare for families as a manny. The money is great and the perks are a blast, but when his family of six years moves to Germany and their plans to bring him along fall through, Lincoln is suddenly unemployed and aware of how much of himself he’s given to other people’s families.

Brought together by circumstances, Lincoln and Vera’s mutually beneficial business arrangement becomes complicated by the undeniable chemistry they share. Vera needs a manny and Lincoln needs a job, but they both may have found the very thing neither one had realized they needed―a whole lot more.

****
Misadventures is a romantic series of spicy standalone novels, each written or co-written by some of the best names in romance. The stories are scandalous, refreshing, and, of course, incredibly sexy. They’re the perfect bedside read, a ‘quick blush’ for the reader who loves a page-turning romance.

Review:
Rating: 3 stars

I received an Arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. I love Toni Aleo's assassin series and when I saw an Arc of this book I had to jump at the chance. Who wouldn't like the idea of a woman falling in love with a Manny. Most of the time we read books that show a single father needing help and this time it was the opposite. This was about a newly divorced single mom trying to raise three boys while still working. Unfortunately for me this book just fell a little flat. The story line was good, but I wanted more. I still enjoyed it, but I wanted more build up between Lincoln and Vera. I wanted the tension and the will they won't they type. Instead a lot of the beginning talks about how hot they think each other is and how they can't do anything because of the boss worker relationship they stepped into. And then once they got together everything just seemed too perfect. I wanted to see them sneak around with sexual tension and watch them fall in love. Instead I felt this was a little insta love attached with lust. I can work with lust, but then develop the lust into love. If your looking for a little lust filled insta book then read this book, sadly, I just don't think I read this book at the right time in my life for me to fully enjoy it.

Cold Book Review

Synopsis: Goodreads

I wanted a second chance. What I got was a repeat.

She was too beautiful. Too smart. And her emerald green eyes saw too much.

I wanted space—she took it away.
I craved her lips—she gave me her kiss.
I screwed it up—she got smart.

Avoiding me is the right thing to do. I’m messed up, tortured, and probably always will be.
But I still want her.
Her mind. Her body. Her heart.
I want it all.

And this time, I’m in control.
No matter what I have to do, I will make her mine.

Note: Levi and Ivy’s story will continue in Book Three—Fox.

Review:

Rating: 4.5 stars

After reading the first book of this series I had to get my hands on the other two books. This book takes place right after Stone. This book focuses more on Levi and Ivy's relationship. This book contains more angst and the cliffhanger at the end seriously almost made me pull an all nighter and finish the series.

In book 2 Levi knows he messed up and he was an ass. Levi is trying to get Ivy to understand his past and how he became the man he is now. I loved Levi finally sharing his past with Ivy and I loved that Ivy didn't just automatically forgive him. He had to work for her forgiveness. Ivy stayed true to herself and even though she was still stubborn most of the times I felt it was realistic. I loved seeing the sisterhood of Ivy and Cami and even though their relationship was strained at times it felt natural. In this book the past comes back to the present and the cliffhanger will make your heart drop and reach for the third book to continue the series.

I will say this book was a little predictable, but I am so excited to start the third book.

Stone Book Review

Synopsis: Provided by Goodreads

First, hate. Then, want. But in the end? Heartbreak.

My celebrity life was supposed to be easy, and this movie was the biggest break of my career. But from the moment Officer Levi Fox gave me a speeding ticket on my way into town, he’s been nothing but a thorn in my side.

Dominant. Cocky. Callous.
Midnight blue eyes, a bad attitude, and muscles for days, he’s exactly the kind of man I should avoid.

But as the Cold, Montana Police Department’s official movie liaison, he’s taken up a permanent place in my life that I can’t shake.

We fight. A lot.

Then, we kiss—and my carefully crafted hate toward him no longer feels so much like hate.

I’m falling
falling
falling.
But how often do alpha-jerks cushion the landing?

Note: Levi and Ivy’s story will continue in Book Two—Cold.

My Review:

Rating: 5 stars

Do not read this book unless you have the rest of the trilogy on hand!!! Unfortunately, my "friend" Ash did not tell me this secret and I stupidly started the book without having the others on hand.  This is the book I received in my August Bookworm Box. I loved this book and I'm so glad I got it.

Ivy is a down to earth starlet, who came to Cold, Montana to make a movie based on a serial killer that shook the little town.

Levi is a hot, broody officer who doesn't want this movie to happen and is unfortunately the liaison for the police department for the movie.

From the moment that Ivy flies into town and Levi pulls her over and gives her a parking ticket sparks start to fly. Neither one of them wants to admit it and both are stubborn in their ways, but somehow fighting turns to kissing and kissing starts to turn into feelings that neither one is sure they want to deal with. I even started loving the secondary characters. This book ended with a bang and I needed to read the second one as soon as possible because I was invested in these characters.

This was the first Max Monroe book I read and I can tell it won't be the last besides finishing the trilogy because I love their writing. This book keeps you on your toes with the mystery of the past.

August Bookworm Box

A little late but this is my bookworm box for August. This month they did the box differently with books from authors that attended Book Bonanza and everyone got something different. I was so excited to read a book by Max Monroe. They were so sweet when I met them at Book Bonanza. Also, the travel mug is perfect with work starting back up again.

The Kiss Quotient Review

Synopsis: Goodreads

A heartwarming and refreshing debut novel that proves one thing: there's not enough data in the world to predict what will make your heart tick.

Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases--a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.

It doesn't help that Stella has Asperger's and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice--with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can't afford to turn down Stella's offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan--from foreplay to more-than-missionary position...

Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but to crave all the other things he's making her feel. Soon, their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic...

My Review:

Rating: 4.5 stars.

My friend Steph highly recommended this book and told me I had to read it and I am glad I did because I really liked this book. I haven't read a book about a woman that is diagnosed with Asperger's and I am glad that it was out in the open. I loved the way that Michael was patient and didn't push Stella to do something she didn't want to do. Michael is honestly one of the most frustrating but good hearted guys out there. I like that neither character was perfect and that even with their flaws you could still fall for them.

The writing was awesome with the reader feeling everything Stella was feeling as the book progressed and watching the two come together. I would definitely read another book by this author.
I would recommend this book only to adult readers because it is very steamy especially since Michael is a male escort that Stella hires to help her become better at sex.

Envy by Rachel Van Dyken Book Review

Envy is a short novella for the 1,001 Dark Nights series. This book takes place in Rachel's mafia world, but can be read even if you haven't read the series. Each book in the 1001 Dark Nights series is to introduce new readers to different authors and different worlds. Envy is Victor and Renee's story. Victor is the mafia's enforcer and he swore an oath to protect the families. Renee is a made man's daughter who is  babysitting for the mafia's families during the summer before she goes back to college. The problem is that Vic can't help but watch the nanny.

Something happens and Vic ends up being the bodyguard to keep an eye on Renee. Sparks start to fly and even though both try to resist, the temptation is there. Even with Chase trying to push the two together just to get it out of their systems both try to fight the flames of desire. Vic tries his best not to make a move since she is betrothed and he has taken a oath of celibacy for the families. Even though Renee is innocent, she knows what she wants and she wants Vic. Renee knows who Vic is and what he has done and even though she should be scared of this "monster" she doesn't see him as one. This book is sizzling with sexual chemistry, sweetness, a little bit of mystery, and sexual tension. Also, when you see Vic with the kids you will turn into a puddle of mush.

There's something about a book when you read it twice in two weeks. This book just hits all the right spots and will make you want to dive right in the Eagle Elite series again or for the first time if you've never read the series and will give you a serious book hangover. This book also introduces you to who the next book will be about in the series. Vic and Renee's story is sweet and passionate and will make you swoon. Vic is now one of my favorite book boyfriends. He's tall, brooding and protective. It's hard to write a spoiler free review when I just want to gush about the perfectness of Renee and Vic.

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken comes a new story in her Eagle Elite series…

Every family has rules, the mafia just has more….
Do not speak to the bosses unless spoken to.
Do not make eye contact unless you want to die.
And above all else, do not fall in love.
Renee Cassani’s future is set.
Her betrothal is set.
Her life, after nannying for the five families for the summer, is set
Somebody should have told Vic Colezan that.
He’s a man who doesn’t take no for an answer.
And he only wants one thing.
Her.
Somebody should have told Renee that her bodyguard needed as much discipline as the kids she was nannying.
Good thing Vic has a firm hand.

Kicking Reality Book Review

Kicking Reality is about a reality TV star named Emerson. She feels like she is an outsider in her own life until one night when she goes back to her hometown and everything changes. Logan is Emerson's brothers best friend and teammate. Logan plays soccer for the U.K and is perceived to be a bit of a man whore, except just like how Emerson looks happy, looks can be deceiving. Even though I have read many brother's best friend books this one was very different. I really liked this book because it was raw and real. Emerson had flaws and so did Logan. Neither of the characters were perfect and this wasn't a fairy tale story where all the bad stuff just went away. When Emerson tried to leave her reality show she couldn't because of contracts and I really liked that Kat showed that because it brought realism to the book. I am not a fan of cheating or love triangles and I will tell you that neither are really in this book. Logan and Emerson's story is angsty, funny, frustrating, steamy and will make you sigh. If you are looking for a good read I would recommend this book to you. I've never read a Kat T. Masen book before, but I will definitely be checking out her books now.

Rating: 4 stars

Kicking Reality

“You honestly believe all that rubbish? Falling in love? They knew from the start? C’mon. It’s impossible,” I ramble to myself as Logan quietly stands at the edge. “You can spend a whole lifetime knowing someone and still feel unsure if the love is there. Two minutes in a bar and that person is your soulmate? Ludicrous.”

Logan turns his neck, body following until we’re facing each other. His presence radiates with superiority, just like when we were kids. I wasn’t afraid back then and I am not afraid now. His tough-guy persona doesn’t frighten me one bit.

“Hypocritical coming from someone engaged to a man that swore he fell in love with you the moment he saw you?” he questions, sarcasm lacing every word that left his mouth.

The shock of his words cripples my ability to respond with a witty comeback. We weren’t having a good ol’ laugh throwing worms in the bottom of Ash’s school bag anymore. And my initial reaction to his cruel words does nothing to calm the sea of emotions ravaging inside me. Logan Carrington was one of them. They all came from the same seed. The seed of men that felt entitled. Screw women, move on, fuck feelings and repeat.

“Knock, knock . . . anyone home?”

“You’re a jerk,” I mutter.

BLURB

Emerson

Everyone thinks they know who I am. I’m that reality TV star that fell in love with co-star Wesley Rich. But reality wasn’t my life. It was the life I lived in front of the cameras.
A life designed to entertain millions of watchers each Monday night.

It only took one night to relive my past, and one night to forget my future. With someone who had been there all along.

Logan

Soccer is my life—it’s in my blood.
I train hard, I play hard, and I win.  Nothing will break my focus.

I should have been able to avoid it, resist the temptation. But it’s there, playing every Monday night, an obsession I can’t seem to shake.

And I don’t know what was harder: hiding it from my best friend, or watching the woman I want live a life with someone else.

Nothing Left to Lose by Kirsty Mosely Book Review

Synopsis: Provided by Goodreads.

Three years after the tragic events of Anna’s sixteenth birthday which saw her boyfriend killed and her kidnapped by his sadistic murderer, she’s no longer the happy-go-lucky girl that everyone used to know and love; she’s now cold, hard and suffers from night terrors.

Carter is currently serving time for the murder of Jack–a conviction that Anna helped secure–but his retrial is coming up because some key evidence appears to have been tampered with.

Needing to ensure his daughter’s safety, presidential candidate, Senator Spencer, tasks in Ashton Taylor, a newly qualified SWAT agent, to guard the broken girl and keep her safe until the end of the trial.

For three years Anna has refused to feel emotion or pain. Can Ashton help her rebuild her life and finally deal with the grief of losing her childhood sweetheart? Will he be the one to make her see that life is, in fact, worth living and that not all men will hurt her?

My Review:

Rating: 2.5 stars

I came across this book on Facebook as one to get free. It looked promising and I wish I could say I loved it, but I didn’t. I loved Ashton and how he was patient and how he took his job protecting Anna, for the most part, seriously. I liked Anna too, but all the horrors she faced seemed to go away almost too easily when Ashton came into the picture. Without giving away spoilers, everything that happened to her since she lost her child sweetheart, one would almost assume that she would stay broken longer. I felt this story was rushed in the beginning , but then flat lined. I did like the writing, but I wish there would have been a slower built up. Honestly, within the first 25% I was irritated with this book because of what happened. I will keep this review as spoiler free as possible. I thought this book would end up with a cliffhanger that would have me reaching instantly for the next book, but no such luck. The thing is I liked this authors writing between the characters for the most part so maybe I will read a different book by her and like it better. One that isn’t about a broken girl and her bodyguard. Overall. I liked the premise but to me it just fell flat.
