“I loved reading about Greek mythology the most when I was in high school.”

I turned toward Melanie who was staring at me. I wondered how long she’d been looking on or more so. How long ago did she move her chair to the side of the table, so we were sitting next to each other, rather than across from each other?

“I’m a huge fan of Greek mythology myself,” I respond.

“You are?” Melanie cocked her head to the side. A look of disbelief crossed her face and I tried not to laugh.

“I am. I loved studying about it in college. I took a couple of Greek mythology classes between History and Literature. I even took a Latin class as well. The culture intrigues me.”

“Same here. Anything I can get my hands on I love to read or watch about.”

“If that’s the case, I have a comic I’d love to show you. It’s about Persephone and Hades.” Melanie quickly put her drink down and placed her hand over mine.

“Wait!” There was a stunned look on her face as she reached into her back pocket, bringing her phone out. It was only seconds before she was shoving the device in my face, showing me exactly what I’d been about to tell her.

“You mean Lore Olympus?!”

“Yeah,” I laughed at Melanie’s enthusiasm and when she pulled the phone away, I saw a genuine smile plastered across her face as she looked at me.

“It’s one of my all-time favorite comics and it’s not just the story but the illustrations as well. It’s just so cool to see the story come to life in a different way than just words or even so, the way most people read about it.”

“Exactly. We can see these Gods in our time and see them be almost human for a second. It’s quite a refreshing rendition to the Greek mythology world.”

“Did you see it was being optioned for a show too?!”

“I had not but that sounds exciting. I wonder if it will be animated the way it is in the comics or if they are going to change it.”

“I hope they’d keep it the way it is but if anything, seeing that story come to life would be amazing to watch.”

“I hope you wouldn’t make me watch it alone.”

It was a long shot but I stuck the comment out there in the open, hoping with how this coffee date was going, Melanie would sink into the words and move this in the direction I wanted it to go.

“Smooth move there, Jack.” She shook her head and leaned in closer to me, just like she had at the bar. “I said this wasn’t a date.”

“Yet here you are in a dress, sitting next to me, giving me the smile I’ve been so desperately wanting to get from you.”

“My smile?” She moved her hand to her lips and looked down at her drink.

I reached out, tucking my fingers under her chin and lifting her head up.

“You’re smile, Melanie.” I gave her a small smile myself. “Since I’ve known you, I’ve never seen the smile you give others directed toward me. Now, you’ve given me a smile that I’ve never seen you give anyone else.”

My Review:
My Rating: 3 stars

I received an advanced copy by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Gillian is part owner of a bridal company whose life isn't what she thought it would be. Tucker is an ex-soldier who is trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life now that he is out of the military. He meets Gillian and sparks fly, however Gillian is struggling with figuring out who she is and doesn't want to add a new guy into the mix. This was a cute story, but at times it felt slow. I really liked Tucker, he grew as a character and went after what he wanted., Gillian was so wishy washy at times that I felt annoyed with her. Her self doubt annoyed me after the 3rd or 4th time and I didn't feel that she grew as a character. Sometimes I felt the focus was too much on weddings and not the partnership of two people. The side characters were written well and while this is the second book as the series it can be read as a standalone.

I arched my brow at her. “I bragged about knowing you so well…but man. I did not see this almond croissant massacre coming. What do you have against almonds? Or was it the amount of butter that offended you? Because as a fitness expert, let me tell you butter isn’t the enemy. Sugar is the enemy.”

She laughed. “I, uh…I might have some anger management issues.”

I took the bag from her and peeked in. There were knuckle marks against the outside of the croissant. Literal knuckle marks. I barked a laugh. “Elaina Dyker. Did you punch the croissant?”

She laughed, pressing her lips together as though this would hide the fact that I saw her adorable little giggle. She brought her thumb and forefinger up beside her temple. “Maybe a little.”Did you even try a bite?”

She shook her head no. “I like my routine. I like my daily lunch of yogurt and almonds.”

I made a face. Because she had to be exaggerating. Sure…she liked them. But having that same thing every day? Even chocolate cake every day would get tedious.

“You can like yogurt and almonds but still indulge every now and then, you know.” I reached in and pinched off a piece of the smashed croissant, holding it out toward her lips. “C’mon. Live a little. I promise you, it is actually healthy, if that’s your concern.” Not that she needed to be concerned about that. “Almond flour. Gluten free. Grain free. Only two net carbs. The only sugar is the honey in the honey roasted almonds and the natural sugar in dates.” Her eyes grew wide at that and I knew I had hooked her.

She reached out her hand to take the piece of croissant from me, but I pulled back. “Nuh-uh,” I teased. “We can’t have your fingers getting sticky. Might ruin that fancy suit you’re wearing.”

She rolled her eyes, but parted her wet lips, her tongue peeking out just enough for me to place the croissant on top of. She moaned as soon as it hit her mouth, and her eyes fell closed as she slowly chewed and swallowed. “That’s…that’s healthy?”

I nodded. “See? I’m not just a pile of muscles. I’ve got some talent, too.”

Her head fell to the side. “I never said you weren’t talented. I just wish you wouldn’t show off quite so much of your other assets.”

I grinned. “I thought you liked my assets?”

“I do,” she answered absentmindedly, then immediately shook her head, realizing what she’d said. “I mean, I did.”

About Katana

As an author and a story-teller, it is the lifeblood to which my ideas take flight. And I believe in giving credit where credit is due. Occasionally someone (ie – my husband) will try to secretly switch out my beloved regular coffee for decaf. I always know the difference. ALWAYS (I’m looking at you, SEAN).

I am incapable of achieving the perfect ponytail. I’m dyslexic. I can never wear white without spilling on myself. And I’ve never read Pride and Prejudice (gasp!). When I was younger and stole my mother’s Harlequins to read beneath the covers with a flashlight (seriously, did we ALL do this? I think we did.), I wanted to read about the tough as nails heroine. The perfectly imperfect girl with quirks and attitude and sass. And the anti-heroes who were anything but “Prince Charming.” Forget the knight on a white horse… give me the bad boy on a motorcycle.

So, now, I write those romance novels I craved to see on the shelves all those years ago—the sassy heroines. The badass heroes. I spend my days in the throes of my imagination, and am loving every minute of it. I can travel anywhere and become anyone I want to be. One day, I’m a mechanic in Boston and the next, I’m a vampire stripping in Las Vegas.

Since penning my first novel back in 2012, I’m now an international author with 15 published books, in a wide range of contemporary romance genres–(Paranormal, New Adult, Small town, Erotic Suspense… you name it!).

After living for a decade in Brooklyn, NY, I took the plunge and moved to beautiful (although kinda chilly) Portland, Maine. I now live full time in ‘Vacationland’ with a kind of mean cat, a mellow chihuahua, and a very NOT mellow lab-pittie mix. Oh, yeah…there’s a husband who draws comics somewhere in that mix, too. This is the concluding book of the Playboy Royal Duet. This book picks up right where Royal Playboy stops. I actually think I preferred the first book better. Xander is still trying to get revenge on Alistair and we see farther into his past, unfortunately he still keeps secrets from Imani and I just didn't care for that. He wants to be her white knight and while that is noble and what most women want Imani just wants to handle her own problems. I hated that while she wanted Xander to share his secrets she really didn't share about her past. Xander ends up finding out about it from someone else. I liked that Imani wanted to be independent and deal with her own issues, but I wish she would lean more on other people who want to help her.

The relationship between the two is that they are trying to be careful with their hearts and it ends up building a wall between them. Their relationship had it's ups and downs and I liked that they ended up talking to other people to realize what they needed to do to become better people in their own relationship. I was glad when Xander realized he needed help and had to work on himself to be a better person before he could be the right guy for Imani. I also enjoyed seeing some of the other royal family members in this book.

Overall, this book was good but Xander and Imani just frustrated me with keeping secrets from each other and not always talking things out and going behind each other's backs.

I nipped her shoulder. "Too right. And as soon as we're back from breakfast, I plan on putting you in a comatose state again. But first I need to feed my...” My voice trailed off as I looked for the right word.

She slowly sat up. “Not sure what to call me, huh?”

“Guess not. We’ve been playing house and you’re posing as my fiancée, but that’s different now.”

She nodded slowly as she studied me. “I guess it is.”

I wanted to say the word. Mine. But that was too much and would certainly scare her off. So instead, with a nervous laugh, I said, “Don’t look at me. I haven’t a clue how to do this. But I know staying away from you isn’t really an option I’d like to explore any longer.” God, way to pussy out.

She chewed her lip. “It’s not like I have some kind of manual either. I don’t really— I mean I haven’t really had a lot of relationships. And I don’t really do the whole trusting-people thing, so this is hard.”

Panic flared in my chest. I was fucking this up.

She didn't want this. I scrambled for a way to make sure she stayed in my life. Fuck. We’d start with the bed. We were good there. I could bring her around with great sex, right? “Why don't we just take it easy and see where the meandering road leads? Maybe we’ll make a good team.” Fuck. Why did I sound like a complete wanker?

She looked down at her hands before slanting me a glance. “Xander, you’re paying me to be here. It doesn’t feel… right.”

Bollocks. I knew the money would come back to haunt me. “I already wired the rest of the money into your account this morning when I woke up.” My heart hammered as I searched for the right words. Not too clingy, but interested. Yeah, more like desperate, mate. “I want you to stay because you want to.”

She frowned up at me. “Why did you do that? I could be the kind of person to walk out.”

No. Please no. Swagger, mate. Believe it. I shook my head. “Because I’d like the real girlfriend instead of the fake one, if you don’t mind. I mean, I’d like you to stay until I hear about the position on the board of the Trust, but even when you move back to your place, I’d like to see you. A lot. Exclusively.” Way to mark your territory, you knob.

My stomach knotted as I watched her. What if she said no? Well, I’d give her so many orgasms she’d be too weak to say no. That sounded like a solid plan.

Keaton Westbrook is a social media superstar struggling with her own private grief of losing her boyfriend to cancer. Julian just woke up from a coma and found out his estranged twin brother Bridge had basically replaced him in life and even taken his fiancée. Well that would be a lot for anyone he also recently lost his mom.

This book was hard for me to read. I just lost my mom this year from cancer. It's still a grieving process for me and I liked that it showed Julian and Keaton going through their own grief. It showed how hard it is to move on after losing someone, how sometimes anger is easier than showing how sad you are and that even though someone died those that are left behind still have to move on and live their lives. How much of an impact it is losing your mom.

I liked how the relationship between Keaton and Julian was slower than the last few relationships Rachel has written. I love that they bonded over their grief and let it heal them together. I loved the witty banter between the two and just how realistic this book was. When I read the first book I felt bad for Julian so I am glad he got his own book. He deserved it. Overall, this book hurt me and healed me while reading it.

Isabelle is currently a office manager to a security company, but wants to become an operative. Isabelle's best friend and co-worker Jayden knows the risk of being an operative and wants to keep her safe. After Isabelle's grandma's ex asks for Isabelle and Jayden to go undercover as a married couple to solve a mystery Isabelle knows it's the perfect way to show Jayden and their boss she can be a operative. The only problem is when the chemistry between Isabelle and Jayden can't be denied what will happen after the job? This was the first time reading this author and I absolutely enjoyed her writing. There were a few things that I called while reading and a few unexpected turns. I love that Isabelle knew what she wanted and wouldn't give up her dreams just for a guy. She wasn't a pushover, which after reading quite a few romance novels was a breath of fresh air. I loved Jayden, he was the perfect alpha for Isabelle. The side characters were great and I am going to have to go and read Liam's book. The book ended with a small cliffhanger that will help introduce the next book and I am excited to read how that one goes. I loved Isabelle's grandma and two best friends. Overall, this was a great book. It was hilarious, had mystery and romance. I will definitely check out more books by this author.

This is my first book by Colet Abedi and it won't be my last. I really enjoyed the story between Kerri and Touble. Trouble has spent many years watching Kerri and learning as much about her as he can in order to use her to ruin her father. The only problem is once he actually meets Kerri, she's not what he expected. This was a great enemies to lover book with chemistry.

The chemistry between Kerri and Ian is scorching and I really admire Kerri. She's been through a lot and the person she has come to be is pretty amazing. She knows what she wants and what she deserves. I loved that she has actual human faults that we don't always see in the women of romance books. I enjoyed the alpha that is Ian and how he wrestles between revenge and following his own heart. I hope Colet decides to write a book about Kerri's brother because even though he only had a little part in this book I think his story could be epic. Overall, this was a great read and I will be checking out more of this author's work.

This story starts off with Randi being in the white house as VP. We follow the first year of Randi as VP and see how much has changed since she first started the campaign. In this book Randi fights for her morals and the promises she made. While I didn't initially care for Randi I felt closer to her in this book. Maybe I finally understand where she is coming from and trying to fight for what you believe in. If you loved Trey or Trouble in book 1 you will still love him in book 2. He tries to help and protect Randi to the best of his ability even when it might not be the smartest choice to make. We learn more about Trey's past and his family in this book. I also loved reading about Tank and how much he cares for both Randi and Trey and his friendship with both of them. For me this book was better than the first. Whereas, the first book was setting everything up this book had a lot of action, suspense, and chemistry. Plus it ended in a bigger cliffhanger than the first one. I can't wait to read the 3rd book of the series.
