My Rating: 3 stars

This is the concluding book of the Playboy Royal Duet. This book picks up right where Royal Playboy stops. I actually think I preferred the first book better. Xander is still trying to get revenge on Alistair and we see farther into his past, unfortunately he still keeps secrets from Imani and I just didn't care for that. He wants to be her white knight and while that is noble and what most women want Imani just wants to handle her own problems. I hated that while she wanted Xander to share his secrets she really didn't share about her past. Xander ends up finding out about it from someone else. I liked that Imani wanted to be independent and deal with her own issues, but I wish she would lean more on other people who want to help her.

The relationship between the two is that they are trying to be careful with their hearts and it ends up building a wall between them. Their relationship had it's ups and downs and I liked that they ended up talking to other people to realize what they needed to do to become better people in their own relationship. I was glad when Xander realized he needed help and had to work on himself to be a better person before he could be the right guy for Imani. I also enjoyed seeing some of the other royal family members in this book.

Overall, this book was good but Xander and Imani just frustrated me with keeping secrets from each other and not always talking things out and going behind each other's backs.

EXCERPT

I nipped her shoulder. "Too right. And as soon as we're back from breakfast, I plan on putting you in a comatose state again. But first I need to feed my...” My voice trailed off as I looked for the right word.

She slowly sat up. “Not sure what to call me, huh?”

“Guess not. We’ve been playing house and you’re posing as my fiancée, but that’s different now.”

She nodded slowly as she studied me. “I guess it is.”

I wanted to say the word. Mine. But that was too much and would certainly scare her off. So instead, with a nervous laugh, I said, “Don’t look at me. I haven’t a clue how to do this. But I know staying away from you isn’t really an option I’d like to explore any longer.” God, way to pussy out.

She chewed her lip. “It’s not like I have some kind of manual either. I don’t really— I mean I haven’t really had a lot of relationships. And I don’t really do the whole trusting-people thing, so this is hard.”

Panic flared in my chest. I was fucking this up.

She didn't want this. I scrambled for a way to make sure she stayed in my life. Fuck. We’d start with the bed. We were good there. I could bring her around with great sex, right? “Why don't we just take it easy and see where the meandering road leads? Maybe we’ll make a good team.” Fuck. Why did I sound like a complete wanker?

She looked down at her hands before slanting me a glance. “Xander, you’re paying me to be here. It doesn’t feel… right.”

Bollocks. I knew the money would come back to haunt me. “I already wired the rest of the money into your account this morning when I woke up.” My heart hammered as I searched for the right words. Not too clingy, but interested. Yeah, more like desperate, mate. “I want you to stay because you want to.”

She frowned up at me. “Why did you do that? I could be the kind of person to walk out.”

No. Please no. Swagger, mate. Believe it. I shook my head. “Because I’d like the real girlfriend instead of the fake one, if you don’t mind. I mean, I’d like you to stay until I hear about the position on the board of the Trust, but even when you move back to your place, I’d like to see you. A lot. Exclusively.” Way to mark your territory, you knob.

My stomach knotted as I watched her. What if she said no? Well, I’d give her so many orgasms she’d be too weak to say no. That sounded like a solid plan.

My Review:
My Rating: 4 stars

Like any of the other duet's I've read by Nana Malone, this one too ends in a cliffhanger that leaves you waiting breathlessly for the next book.

We met Xander in London Royal, which is his brother Alexi's story. Xander is a famous photographer who has had a rough past that has made him who he is. This book starts with a prologue in the current time and the first chapter is 4 years earlier as Xander is recalling how he and Imani met.

Imani is an actress rehearsing for her newest role by interviewing and even poses as an escort, after all this guy only ever wants to talk. It should be fine right? Sparks fly as soon as the two meet and so begins their tale. Both Imani and Xander are hiding and fighting battles from their past. Xander ends up hiring Imani to be his fake girlfriend, but what happens when he can't escape the feelings she evokes in him? Like I stated this book ends on a cliff-hanger that will want you to reach for the second book to see who the mystery guy at the end is, but sadly. we will have to wait until Feb. This was a great fast read and I am looking forward to the second part.

EXCERPT

I really had to start thinking through my plans better. It had seemed like such a good idea to slip my hand into his before coming down for cocktails. A fantastic idea, really. It was innocuous enough but was something real couples did. Or so I remembered from my old life when I’d had relationships. But then as soon as the doors had opened, there had been people in the hallway.

Xander had probably taken his cue from me, but the kiss he'd planted on my shoulder didn't feel like an act.

It felt… real. At least the shivers it gave me were real.

As we traversed the white marble from the foyer, he gently guided me with a hand on my lower back. But every single touch, caress, and glide brought the lick of heat with it. It was making me half mad with lust. When I slanted him a glance, he blinked at me innocently.

Damn him, he knew he was driving me crazy. And this was why I hadn't wanted to do this. Because of this feeling. Every time he touched me I was transported right back to that flat in Notting Hill where a total stranger had touched me and for once made me feel something.

It didn’t help things that he was smart. He floated easily from conversations about politics, to art, to current events. And of course he spoke flawless French, along with Italian and what sounded like some German. He was officially a Venus flytrap. Everything about him was meant to entice, to entwine, to ensnare.
