Cursed Soul mates. Supernatural creatures. Small town. Death. Love. Hope. Angst. In Rachel Van Dyken and Patti Stangers book we get all of the above. Benjamin has been cursed to live on Earth and never grow old or die. Instead he is cursed to find his soulmate only to be ripped away again and again. Though he tries to fight the curse each time he never seems to be able to break it, except maybe this time it might be different.

Rachel and Patti do a great job creating a world where you can lose yourself in and feel like you know. I think if the duo continues this series it could be a great one, however I would have liked to see Benjamin and his soulmate more in the present time, but there was quite a bit of their past lives that I enjoyed like seeing the two of them fall in love. I felt this book could have been split into a duet because there were many parts in the second half that I felt could be expanded. I am intrigued to see if they continue this series because now that most of the world building is done they can focus on the relationship aspects more. I may add more to this after thinking about the book longer.

Ambrose has the "perfect" life as captain of the lacrosse team, good looking and rich. That is until his parents took in a foster child Mary-Belle. The two quickly became more until they get caught and then everything changed. Now they have to deal with their new normal. Ambrose pretends to hate her until his ex best friend Quinn starts hanging around her, then Ambrose has to decide if he wants to keep playing this game as all of their secrets come out.

I really enjoyed this story, however there was a few things that felt rushed or under developed. I will say I liked reading about the forbidden relationship between Ambrose and Mary-Belle. I liked how Mary-Belle didn't back down and stood up for herself. She counted on herself and tried her best to be the best version of herself. She wanted to protect those she cared about. Ambrose went through a lot in his life, but learned he had to be true to himself. There is definitely angst, suspense and spice. One of the things I love about Rachel is that she doesn't back down from tough subjects and she puts in trigger warning if you need them. I also love that she adds resources to help.

Colby is a popular food blogger, who is enjoying traveling around the world trying different foods. Rip is an accountant and a guy who likes things organized and wants the perfect life. When Colby finds out her best friend, Monica, and her husband, Brooks, died in a horrible accident Colby ends up thrust into the role of raising her best friend's two kids. The only problem is she has to share custody of the kids with Rip, who is Monica's brother and Brook's best friend.

Colby and Rip can't stand each other, but will have to learn how to get along while raising two kids. It was interesting to see how Rip changes from the beginning of this book to the end. I felt the end was a little rushed, but wrapped up all of the storylines nicely. This book will definitely remind some people of the movie Life As We Know It as the premise is very similar, however, Rachel puts her own spin on the godparent roles and the storyline. Honestly, I really enjoyed how Rachel balanced some of the heavier themes in this book with some fun and light moments with the children.

Ai-Ri has been training and trying to make it as a K-pop star for two years, however she isn't the typical K-POP trainee. Her parents have given her 6 more months to make it before she has to try a different path. Ai-Ri's enemy Haneul and his best friend Ryan have an idea to form a co-ed group and need another girl and they ask Ai-Ri. Knowing that Ryan and Hanuel were in a famous K-POP band and knowing her time is running out Ai-Ri decides to try it out. Now Ai-Ri is working with both boys and tempers are flaring, but truths are also starting to come out. What happens when you start liking your enemy?

Honestly, I don't follow K-POP or know much about it except from what I read from Rachel's "My Summer in Seoul." If you follow K-POP you will understand everything that happens to Ai-Ri in this book, however, if you are new to K-POP I would recommend reading My Summer in Seoul to fully understand what it means to be a K-POP star. Even if you do know K-POP I would recommend the book too because I just love Rachel's writing. This novella could definitely be read as a standalone as there's just one recurring character. I love how Rachel brings the world and characters she creates alive and I loved reading about Ai-Ri and the guy she chooses. If you are looking for a short, enemies to lovers, little bit of angst and a lot of heart in the writing this is the book for you this summer.

We both start to sing the chorus, and then she breaks apart from me and takes the higher harmony.

It sounds how I imagined it would, and I want to keep going because it feels good being in here with her, so I motion for her to keep singing her part.

She does it flawlessly.

We hit the chorus again before it goes into my rap line. I get lost in the words.

Music always has a way of distracting me. The chorus pops up again.

Ah-Ri joins in and starts to dance a bit next to me.

I smile and keep singing.

We do four more takes, all of them perfect yet slightly different. By the time we finish the last one, I have so much adrenaline pumping through my system that I could record all day.

She pulls off her headphones and holds up her hand.

I make a fist and punch it lightly.

Ah-Ri throws her head back and laughs. “I guess I deserved that.”

“You really did.” I smirk, then hold up my other hand. “One last chance?”

She sets her headphones on the stand, moves in front of me, and then slowly presses her palm against mine.

Instinct takes over. My fingers slide into hers. Her smile falters as she stares at our joined hands. “Looks like our palms like a seriously long kiss.”

“A lingering kiss,” I tease, licking my lips.

“Lingering, huh?” Her eyes focus on my mouth.

This is a bad idea, my brain screams. Do not fall for your bandmate, the very one you could hate later or have to see on tour every day. In the history of bad ideas, this would be the worst.

Slowly, I pull my hand away from hers.

It falls empty at my side.

It doesn’t hurt, but it doesn’t feel good, either.

It feels like she’s missing when she’s standing right in front of me.

She stares down at her hand, then over at mine before slowly grabbing it again and pressing a kiss to my palm.

Jack and Ivy have to learn to trust each other as they play the game, but as they learn to depend on each other will something more happen?

I enjoyed the light and fluffiness of this book. It's the perfect book to take with you to the beach and just read and relax as you read about the chaos that ensues between Ivy and Jack and Max with his cousin Dustin who is trying to keep him in line. I love Rachel's mafia books, but sometimes I just need a light hearted romantic comedy and this definitely hit the spot.

King is arranged to be married to Del and while that is not complicated enough King is actually in love with his future wife, however she is in love with someone else. Instead of just letting that go, King makes Roman her bodyguard because if he is in love with her then he will make sure she is safe. King now has 7 days to make Del fall in love with him and show her the kind of guy he truly is until a tragedy strikes and they have to go back home. Now they have to figure out who the rat in the family is and whether Del truly has King's back or if she will only be with him for appearances sake.

I do not like love triangles, however, I will always read Rachel's books no matter what because she is one of my favorite authors. Unrequited love is usually shown in the woman's perspective so it was nice to see it told through King's point of view. I also love that we were able to see Del struggle and grow into the Queen she was meant to be with the two men by her side. You do get glimpses of the original Eagle Elite members, but again with the other Mafia Royal books this one focuses on the next generation and shows them struggling to step into the shoes of their parents' empire. I did feel about halfway through this book it was not so much a love triangle as different ways of loving people. I enjoyed watching the transformation of King's character and seeing how much he grew to be the leader. It wasn't easy on him, but in the end he showed his inner strength. Like the other books in this series it had love, heartache, a little angst, comedy and all the other characters from the previous mafia books to show how their lives are still changing. I am sad to see this series end, but I know Rachel can't stay away from the mafia too long.

Let me preface this by saying I knew nothing about K-pop before I started this book, however I usually love Rachel's books and she's been super excited by this project for a long time. So when I got the chance to get an arc of this book I didn't hesitate to request. Grace Lee is planning a different type of Summer when her Uncle in South Korea grants her an opportunity as an Intern for his production company. Grace accepts considering she studies production in the States, except the Rockstar's or idols as they are called in South Korea are vastly different than in the United States. There is less freedom, more pressure and more grooming to become an idol because not everyone has the moves and voice and persona to be an idol. There is even a type of schooling to see if you could make it as an idol! Grace steps off the plane not knowing Korean or many of their customs and has to try to navigate a whole new world. Grace ends up working with SWT, the biggest K-pop group around. She has a lot to learn and not a lot of time to do it. As she spends more time with the group she and the reader learn about the different pressures and aspects of K-pop and it's not as fun as it may seem at first.

I'm not going to go too much into the romantic relationship because while at times it almost seems a little love triangleish it is not. Grace only truly feels romantic feelings for one guy in the group. I love how they all become a family. This book does talk about sensitive issues, but does so in a way that if someone you know or you yourself are facing depression there is no shame in talking to someone about it. I did like that Rachel really brought in her mental health background with this story. The reason why I am only rating it 4 stars is that for some reason the first part of the book took me a little bit of time to get into, but once I did the pages flew. I can't wait to see the other guys get their happily ever after.

This is the fourth story of the younger generations Mafia story and focuses on Maksim and Izzy. Maksim is both part of the Russian and Italian mob so he has a lot to live up to. Izzy's dad is one of the Mafia crime boss so she knows how this life is. These two are the abnormalities of their family where they would rather study then kill, but living in the Mafia it's something you eventually have to do. I can't say too much without spoiling the book, but I struggled through the first part of this book. I will say the second half of the book picked up and I finally saw the strength in Izzy as she stood up for what she wanted. I wish there would have been more romance between the two and less back and forth. As with all of other Mafia Royal books I love seeing the past couples and the parents again. I like that even those these books are mafia there are comedic moments and shows a love for their families.

Remember though, not every book is going to be for every person. I have read the other Mafia books in this series and the original ones and have had mixed reviews for those. I am interested in reading Kings book coming up though.

After something happens to Kartini aka Tiny she doesn't know exactly who she is anymore. Tank is an FBI agent who has been working with the 5 mafia families and it's getting to the point where he has to decide what side he is on. Tiny's cousins Junior and Serena decide to elope to Mexico. Tiny's dad buys her a ticket to take a two week vacation and forces Tank to be her bodyguard as his last act before he makes his decision.

I really liked Tiny and Tank. While Tiny is trying not to be the typical Mafia Princess she is still trying to figure out who she is as a person. Tank is trying to figure out what happened to Tiny to make her the way she is now and keeps trying to hide his feelings for her. Can he continue to run away from his feelings or as he continues to protect her will something more happen? Which side will Tank choose? This is a great addition to Rachel's mafia series and I absolutely can't wait to read more. If you love humor, romance, and mafia this book was made for you!

The door slammed.

“Honey, I’m home...” I said to myself with a grin.

I had a bottle of wine out on the living room table, my shoes on the glass as I leaned back and took a swig from my goblet—because why not get fancy at two in the afternoon?

“It’s ten a.m,” came Tank’s annoyed voice.

Or ten in the morning…whoops.

“I don’t own a watch.” I shrugged.

“What’s that on your left wrist, then?”

“Oh, that?” I shrugged. “It’s an Apple watch used strictly for heart rate and exercise purposes.”

“Exercise to you is opening your mouth and closing it, Tiny.” He made it farther into the room, and I tried…I really did. I tried not to check him out.

Not to stare at his golden skin.

His bulging biceps beneath his plain black t-shirt.

The new ink poking out from the V of that same shirt.

Would he get the Abandonato crest like the rest of the Family?

I shivered.

He would look so hot with it across his chest.

I shifted my eyes away too slowly, and he caught them with his green-eyed gaze before he licked his full lips like he saw something else he wanted to lick.

He always looked at me that way—with both annoyance and need.

On one hand, I wanted to believe the need trumped any annoyance he felt for me, but I knew how he saw me.

“You added more blue.” He jutted his chin toward me and sat down on the chair across from the sofa I was lying on.

“Yup.” I examined my black nail polish. “I felt like it wasn’t making a strong enough statement.”

He snorted out a laugh. “And what sort of statement were you going for? Gothic chic?”

“What?” I glared at him. “You don’t like it.”

“It’s not you.”

Disappointment threatened to choke me, and shame crawled up my neck by way of a harsh red flush. “You don’t know me.”

“I did.” He locked eyes with me. “Or I thought I did.”
