My Review:
My Rating: 4 Stars

Colin Daly is the ex bodyguard we were introduced to in Kiss My Giraffe. Colin is trying to find his next big client while hanging out in Autre. Hayden is an up and coming singer, who recently has a stalker and now needs protection. Enter Colin and his team to protect. After all, if she gets a record deal she will need protection and will be more likely to use Colin's team. But what happens when the chemistry between the two sizzles. Will they cross that line or keep planning for their own futures.

I really enjoyed getting to know Colin and Hayden. I loved the snippets of the other characters from Autre that made little appearances.  They are both people who take care of those they love, which is a nice similarity between their characters and seeing how they interact with those who are special to them. Hayden definitely is a strong and sassy character who truly just wants to be seen and knows what she wants and goes after it. Colin is protective and caring and even though they tried a fake relationship it didn't take long for them to realize the very real feelings they have for each other. Will they be able to make their relationship work or will something come up to test their relationship?

EXCERPT:

“Okay, so what’s the plan?”

Obviously, she was going to let him take the lead. Which was definitely how he preferred things. “First rule, we’re going to have to act very close. Like we've been close for a while.”

She nodded.

“Like we've been physically intimate,” he said to emphasize his point.

She nodded again, seemingly not fazed. “Obviously.”

“So we probably should go over some specifics.”

“Specifics like what?”

“Like that I need…your consent.” So that sounded awkward as fuck out loud.

But again, she barely hesitated. “You have it.”

“I haven't even asked you for anything.”

She took a step closer. “Colin, I completely trust you. Whatever you need to do, I'm in. You have my consent to do anything.”

His body tightened in response to that. This was dangerous. Having this woman's consent to do whatever he wanted to and with her was like a dream come true and a nightmare all rolled into one.

She. Was. A. Client.

He took a breath and attempted to pull his shit together. “Okay, that helps. You trusting me is really important. There might be moments where I can only give you instructions without explanation.”

“I get that,” she said. “I’ll cooperate.”

“And there might be times I have to just do something without any words at all. And…explain later.”

She nodded. “Got it.”

“So…is there anything you absolutely can’t tolerate? Any triggers? Phobias?”

She lifted her brows. “Give me an example.”

“Total darkness. Having your face covered. Certain smells. People touching your hair. Anything like that you can think of?”

Hayden was staring at him, but Colin could tell it was not in fear, but fascination. He was grateful that she seemed to be carefully considering what he’d asked. Finally, she shook her head. “I honestly can’t think of anything.”

“Are you allergic to anything?”

“No. Not that I’m aware of.”

“Is there anywhere you don't want me to touch you?”

She didn’t even think about that one. “No.”

Again, his body reacted. He stubbornly focused on the conversation. “You’re sure? No spots that are off-limits? Anywhere you’re ticklish?”

“No. I mean, I’m a little ticklish. Like anyone. But there’s nowhere that I don’t want you to touch me.”

His pulse hammered in his veins. He moved in closer. She was going to have to get used to him being close to her. Very close. And this would help emphasize what he was asking about and help him gauge her reactions. He needed to be sure. She might be trying to spare his feelings, or she really might not be aware of things that might, in the moment, make her uncomfortable.

“I have to play your boyfriend tonight. Someone who knows you well and who’s been close to you. Naked with you. Who’s seen and touched and tasted you,” he said, letting his voice drop. It wasn’t intentional, but he didn’t fight it when his voice got husky. “If I touch you and you stiffen up, reflexively pull away, act skittish, and he’s watching, he’ll notice.”

She didn’t lean away. In fact, she stepped closer. “Colin, I honestly can't think of a single place where you could touch me that I wouldn’t like it.”

Bayou with Benefits- Review and Excerpt!!

Bayou with Benefits, an all-new nanny meets single dad small town romance featuring a hot firefighter from New York Times bestselling author Erin Nicholas is out now!

BLURB:

They are friends. Without benefits. Unfortunately.

Michael LeClaire is small-town Louisiana. A firefighter. A single dad.

And Amelia Landry is New York City. A social media influencer. A model.

Sure, she’s his son’s favorite person on the planet.

And yeah, their families spend so much time together it’s hard to remember who shares DNA and who just shares secrets, inside jokes, and a sincere lack of boundaries.

And okay, he’s seen her nerdy side. Her sweet side. Her funny, self-deprecating side.

Fine, yes, resisting this woman has taken a saint’s share of willpower.

But he has to. He just cannot do long-distance. And he can’t have a casual fling with someone he’s known–and will know–forever.

Thankfully, he only has to hide his feelings a few times a year when she visits.

And then, he slips. One time. One spontaneous I-knew-it-would-be-everything kiss and he’s a goner.

Now every time they see each other it’s harder and harder to ignore the heat.

And when she shows up on his doorstep after a car accident changes her entire life, there’s no way he can resist the chance to see if this can last…or if they’ll finally flame out.

My Review:
My Rating: 4 Stars

Michael is chief of the Autre fire department and a single dad to Andre. Amelia (Ami) is a close family friend and model who just landed a modeling contract in New York Even though the last few times the two have seen each other and sparks flew they both know nothing can come of it. Ami lives in New York now and Michael can't uproot his son's life. Everything was going okay and they were doing well not acting on the attraction until they kissed. Now it's harder to toe the line of just friends when they know what their chemistry feels like. At least until Ami is involved in a car accident and goes to Michael's house to try and piece together her new life.

I felt like this book dealt with some serious issues. I liked how Erin showed how an accident can affect more than just the person involved in the crash. Michael is a "fixer" and I thought the author did well showing his struggle. He learned he can't fix everything for Ami, no matter how hard he tries. Sometimes you can only fix yourself. I loved how Ami grew as a character after her accident. She was a strong character before, but she was able to become a better person and know her worth after the accident. This was a great addition to the Badges of the Bayou series.

Keep reading for look inside Bayou with Benefits!

“If you don’t want our sisters to think they’re right about everything, you have to quit looking at me like that.”

Michael LeClaire had three choices here.

He could pretend he had no idea what Amelia Landry was talking about, turn, smile nonchalantly, and try to have a normal, casual conversation with her.

That was going to be nearly impossible, of course. This was Ami. There was no being casual around her. He hadn’t been able to pull nonchalant off since he’d first seen her walk down the dock in a lime green bikini the summer she’d turned twenty. But then, eleven months ago, everything had changed and now…yeah, casual was completely off the table.

He’d known she’d be here. Of course. It was her sister’s wedding. She was a bridesmaid. He’d been preparing to see her. Still, it had been three months and the last time…leaving her at that airport had been so much harder than he’d expected. He didn’t think there’d be anything casual about the things he’d end up saying to her tonight if they talked alone.

His second option was setting something on fire so that he would have to don his fire gear and do something with his evening other than watch Ami in her off-the-shoulder peach-colored bridesmaid dress, laughing and dancing and looking fucking stunning while he struggled to remember why they were only friends. As he did every single time she stood too close to him.

The reasons were good. He knew that. The primary one being that she lived in fucking New York City and he lived in Autre, Louisiana and that would just never work out. He had a kid. He was the fire chief here. His entire family was here. He couldn’t move to New York—nor did he want to—and he couldn’t travel there on a regular basis.

Ami was a model. She’d just landed a huge contract. The contract she’d been hoping and working for. She’d moved from Shreveport to New York only three months ago. She wasn’t coming back to Louisiana and also couldn’t be traveling back here on a regular basis.

Fuck New York City.

Yeah, setting something on fire kind of seemed like a great idea.

And then there was his third option: turning, throwing her over his shoulder, taking her straight back to his house, and not letting her out of his bed for a week, whether they could be together long-term or not.

Which would only make all of this—the wanting her, the thinking about her, the missing her—so much worse.

He wasn’t going to be able to do any of those three things.

He was screwed.

So, he sucked in a deep lungful of oxygen and turned, deciding to go with his fourth option—just praying to not fuck everything up. “Am I that obvious?”

Ami smiled up at him. “I just really think it’s unfair that they’re assuming things that I didn’t actually get to experience.”

He shook his head. “Don’t.”

“Don’t what? Talk about how Charlie and Naomi are assuming their matchmaking worked and we spent the entire weekend you were in New York in bed together?”

“Ami,” he said, his voice low with warning.

“Hey, you’re the one looking at me like you’ve seen me naked and want to again,” she said. “Don’t blame me.”

He tossed back the rest of his drink, wished it was alcohol and not just soda, reminded himself that staying completely sober while Ami was in town for the first time since New York was a really, really good idea, and said, “That’s not how I’m looking at you.”

She put a hand on her hip. “Then how would you describe the way you’ve been watching me from across the room but totally ignoring me whenever we’re close enough to talk?”

“Like I’ve been jerking off practically every night for the past three months because I didn’t get you naked, and like since you got back to town I’ve been constantly about ten seconds away from picking you up, taking you home, and tying you to my bed for the next week or two.”

Okay, so even without alcohol he was going to be dangerously inappropriate.

And honest. Just as he’d feared.

Her eyes went wide.

Then she grinned. “Yes. You’re right. That’s a much better, more specific, description.”

Gotta Be Bayou- Blog Tour, Excerpt and Review!!

How do you get over a woman you never should have been, ahem, under in the first place?

Gotta Be Bayou, an all-new grumpy-sunshine, small town romance from New York Times bestselling author Erin Nicholas is now available!

BLURB:

Just when FBI special agent Spencer Landry had decided to forget about investigative journalist Maxine-Max-Keller and their one hot night together, there's a threat made against her and Spencer's protective instincts get all riled up. Again.

So now they're shacking up on the Louisiana bayou and pretending to be in love so he can keep Max safe until the guy is apprehended.

Considering their chemistry and that he can not stop thinking about the gorgeous-and-doesn't-know-it, smart-mouthed, bold-and-yet-vulnerable redhead, this could be a fun few days, right?

Nope. She's all wrong for him.

And she hasn't forgotten he can be kind of a jerk.

Sure, the naked-times are great, but he told her exactly what he wants— a bubbly, sweet school teacher who bakes him brownies and loves to cuddle—and Max ain't it.

Max not only doesn't bake, no one has ever called her sweet. And cuddling? Shudder.

Plus his bossiness is super annoying for someone who's been taking care of herself all her life. But now they're stuck together and dammit, besides being hot and very good with his mouth, Spencer is pretty irresistible with baby goats, little kids, and attempts at baking. And don't forget alpha-protective. All of which makes her stomach feel very swoop-y. No wonder her clothes keep falling off.

But this is a temporary situation and they're only faking it. So falling for the guy is a terrible idea.

She really should have kept that in mind.

My Review:
My Rating: 4 Stars

Spencer Landry has a list of things he wants in his future girlfriend/wife. A few of the big things are someone he can come home to that has cooked him dinner and can bake brownies. He understands it's a little misogynistic but he wants someone light after dealing with the darkness of being an FBI agent. Maxine Keller, or Max for short is an investigative journalist who can take care of herself and can run head first into the darkness that surrounds her job. She is everything not on Spencer's list, but he can't get her out of her mind. After one night together of explosive chemistry the two walk away, except when Max is threatened Spencer won't leave her alone until she's safe. He takes her to Autre, Louisiana, away from the threat and closer to his family that he trusts will help protect her. As the two spend more time together the electricity between them crackles and he truly gets to know the woman behind the sassy mouth. You know what they say in books, it's all fun and games faking a relationship until real feelings show up. Now the two have to figure out if it's because they have been secluded in the woods or if they really do have feelings for each other.

I loved Max and how she was unapologetic for the woman she was. She was not going to change for a man and stayed true to the things she believed were important. She was an independent woman who grew as the story progressed. Spencer was an overprotective man who learned a lot of life lessons in this book that made him into a better man. I loved the chemistry between these two and how open and honest they were about what they wanted from the future. You also get a glimpse of the other characters from Autre in this story, especially Leo. You should read the prequel, Bayou Tonight, which is for free in Ten First Dates first as  it sets up the relationship between Spencer and Max. I can't wait to read more about the Badges of the Bayou.

Keep reading for a look inside Gotta Be Bayou!

She’d fallen asleep on him.

Literally.

Well, her feet were on him anyway. Actually, her legs from the knees down.

She’d started just propped against the opposite end of the couch, with her crossword puzzle book open on the arm. She’d mostly focused on the puzzle, but he’d noticed her smiling and even laughing a couple of times at the TV.

Eventually, she’d propped her head on her hand and just watched. Then her eyes started drifting shut. Then her head was on the arm of the couch.

But when she wanted to get comfortable, she got comfortable.

She’d scooted down to rest her head on the couch cushion and stretched out.

Including putting her feet in Spencer’s lap.

He’d had to catch her heels in his hands to keep her from kicking him in the balls.

And then he’d just held her feet, rubbing his thumbs along the arches of her feet, and absorbing the sound of her contented sigh and loving the way she cuddled deeper into the couch.

He’d wanted her to feel safe and be comfortable and relaxed.

Mission accomplished.

The woman was sound asleep.

At 8:30 p.m.

The episode ended and Spencer realized he didn’t remember a thing from what he’d watched. He’d been paying attention to Max.

Of course he’d started with the way her soft cotton shorts molded to the curve of her hips and ass. The way the matching tank hugged her waist and breasts. There was no way he could have ignored that. He was drawn to this woman and the part that didn’t confuse him was his attraction to her body.

Now, having those sweet curves within touching distance again and barely covered, absolutely drew his attention. But with her asleep, and him unable to really do anything, he also had the chance to simply study her up close.

Her eyelashes were pale and had a reddish hue. Of course they did. She was a redhead. But he’d never thought about the color of a woman’s eyelashes before. Now he was fascinated. Did she wear mascara? He was going to have to pay attention to see the next time she was awake.

She stirred, shifting, moving her feet against his hands and he stroked a hand up one calf. It wasn’t perfectly smooth. There was just a slight prickle, but he didn’t mind at all. In fact, he wanted to feel that against his thighs and hips as she wrapped her legs around him. It was real and he wanted to feel her legs in every stage from freshly shaved to haven’t-had-a-chance-for-days.

Wow, she was truly asleep. He should make her go to bed.

“Max?” he asked softly.

She didn’t even wiggle.

“Max?” he asked a little louder, squeezing her foot gently.

She just breathed in deeply, then out.

He should just carry her into bed. He could just scoop her up and take her into the bedroom.

Spencer shifted her legs so he could stand. Then he leaned over. She was on her side, so he pushed gently against her shoulder, rolling her to her back. She went with a sigh, one hand moving to rest on her chest. Perfect. Spencer slid an arm under her knees and one behind her back.

And everything was great until he started to lift.

She came awake suddenly. She kicked her legs, flailed her arms, and her head lifted instinctively to look around. Her forehead hit Spencer in the chin. Hard.

His head snapped back and his teeth clamped down on his tongue.

“Fuck!” he swore in surprised pain.

“Ahhh!” she yelled.

She was still kicking and waving her arms and he unceremoniously dropped her one foot back onto the couch cushions.

“Max! It’s me!”

She kicked out, her shin connecting with his thigh.

That fucking hurt too.

“Max!” He pinned her arms down against the couch. “Max! It’s Spencer!”

Her eyes were wide and not fully focused.

She just yelled again. “Ahhhhh!”

Dammit. The cottage next door was going to think they needed to call the cops.

Which was Zander.

Spencer did not want Zander showing up here, grinning and smirking and writing up a report about how Spencer had tried to sweetly carry Max to bed and she’d thought he was attacking her.

“Maxine!” he said sharply, putting a leg across hers to keep her from kicking and, against his better judgement, placing a hand over her mouth. “Stop it. It’s me.”

Her eyes flew to his as he put his face directly in front of hers.

“It’s Spencer.”

She suddenly went still. Her gaze focused and she stopped moving and he felt her pull in a long breath.

He waited another few seconds, making sure that she realized who was holding her down.

Slowly he removed his hand. “Okay?” he asked.

She drew in another long breath and blew it out. She nodded. “Yeah.”

“Holy shit, Max.”

“What happened?”

“You were sleeping like the dead, so I decided to carry you into the bedroom.

And you turned into the Tasmanian devil.”

“Well, I'm not used to people picking me up in the middle of the night.”

That made him chuckle. “It's not even 9 p.m.”

“Well… still.”

He liked that she was at a loss for words. That was unusual.

Slowly, he became aware of the fact that he was pinning her to the couch. With almost his entire body.

In spite of the fact that she’d been fighting off an intruder in her imagination and he’d been fearing for his manhood, his eyes, nose, and jaw, it didn't take long for his body to register that this felt really nice.

The couch was big enough for the two of them to lie together. He wasn't entirely on top of her, but almost half of him was pinning more than half of her to the cushions.

“I, um… didn’t mean to squash you. Self-preservation instinct.”

She smiled. “You're not squashing me.” Her voice was soft and a little breathless.

Their gazes locked. “I did this, honestly, to keep you from hurting me or yourself.

But mostly me.”

She wet her lips and nodded. “I believe you.”

“So, I could probably get up now. You seem a lot more calm.”

“Funny, I don't exactly feel calm.”

His heart kicked against his rib cage. A moment ago she’d been ready to claw his eyes out. The moment before that she’d been so deeply asleep that she hadn't realized he was even there. But now, her gaze was hot and she was breathing fast, and she was definitely not wearing a bra with this pajama set.

Spencer’s entire body responded. “You fell asleep really fast. And very deep,” he said, his voice husky.

“I often fall asleep on the couch. Never that deeply, though. I guess I felt really safe with you.”

Damn, he liked that. He felt the corner of his mouth curl. “Until I tried to pick you up.”

“Sorry. Instinct.”

“Honestly the cop part of me is very glad that your instinct is to fight hard when someone does something unexpected.”

“Good.” She gave a little nod. “I guess that means you just need to be sure I'm expecting anything you do.”

He nodded slowly and his gaze dropped to her mouth. “Good idea. For instance, if I was going to kiss you, I should make sure that you knew that.”

She nodded. “Right.”

“Max.”

“Yeah?”

“I'm going to kiss you.”

“Good.”

Kiss My Giraffe-Excerpt, Review and Blog Tour!!

She’s the only woman he can’t resist.

And now she lives right next door.

Kiss My Giraffe, a spicy grumpy sunshine romantic comedy, and the final standalone in the Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild series from New York Times bestselling author Erin Nicholas, is available now!

BLURB:

Fiona knew Knox would be mad when she moved in next door.

And not because she brought a collection of wild animals with her.

And she was right.

So she intended to leave him alone. Mostly.

But he’s not ignoring her. He’s actively working to send her and her “ridiculous menagerie” (rude) right back out of town.

Still, as hard as she tries, it’s impossible to stop thinking about the small town grump’s long hair and tattoos and that mouth.

Not the one that’s almost always set in a grim line and says things like, “you got a permit for that?”

Nope, the one that kisses her like she’s everything he’s ever wanted and says very dirty things in her ear. And sweet, protective, supportive things. Sometimes. Accidentally.

When she catches him off-guard.

The one that also says he only wants a long-distance fling with her. Nothing serious.

And that he never dates women he sees every day. Like his neighbor.

Well, fine. If he doesn’t want her—and her unbelievable past and that-can’t-be-real future—then she doesn’t want him either. He can just kiss her…giraffe. (Yeah, she actually has a couple of those.)

Now she just needs to convince her heart to give him up.

My Review:

My Rating: 4 Stars

Knox and Fiona have been building up the tension and steam ever since Fiona showed up in her purple truck and started bringing animals to the Boys of the Bayou wildlife rescue. Now Fiona is moving to the Bayou and just happens to be Knox's new neighbor. Knox doesn't date women he sees everyday and wants to have a long distance fling with Fiona. He just has to find a way to stop her from moving to the Bayou, except Fiona knows what she wants and will go after it. This was a great ending to this series. I love how Knox comes off as a grouchy, nerdy, by the book kinda guy, except he does have that Bayou blood running through his veins that can do all the dirty talking a girl can handle!  I enjoyed finding out about Fiona's secrets and how she doesn't let other people stop her from doing what she loves .

I also hope Fiona's brother's get books because I am definitely interested in their stories! If you are looking for a book with a huge family that doesn't mind their own business, cute animals, dirty talking grouch, slow burn to scorching story then this is the book for you! I don't want to say too much and give anything away but if you thought you knew Fiona before, you really don't until you read this book. I would suggest reading Otterly into You because it is the prequel novella to this book, but the other Boys Of The Bayou stories can all be read as standalones.

Read on for a look inside Kiss My Giraffe!

“Remember that thing we talked about at Christmas?"

Knox felt his gut clench. They'd talked about sleeping together. And him becoming the temporary foster dad to three baby otters.

And they'd kissed for the first time. A kiss that had been causing annoying, unwelcome, frustrating dirty dreams for three fucking months.

"About having a salacious affair where we sneak around behind our friends' backs and sleep together whenever I'm in town?" she pressed when he didn't answer.

"Yes. I remember."

Too well. He was incredibly pissed about how often he'd replayed that conversation and how restless he'd been waiting for her to call or come back to Autre.

He didn't pine for women. Ever. He did the opposite of that.

But now she was here. And Knox wasn't sure what he was feeling. Her showing up unannounced wasn't unusual. Fiona Grady rolled into Autre without warning more often than not in her grape-soda-purple truck that sent his heart hammering and cock hardening.

But it had been three months since he'd seen her. Since they'd talked. Since he'd had any clue what she was doing, where she was, how she was.

Suddenly, she was on his doorstep asking about their plan to bang whenever she was in town for a couple of days?

"Okay, well, there's something I need to tell you that will make you not want to do that anymore," she said. "So I was wondering if maybe you wanted to get naked together once before I told you and ruined everything?"

He opened his mouth to reply. Then shut it without a word. What the hell?

He glanced over his shoulder. Three minutes ago, he'd been sitting at his kitchen table doing paperwork with a cup of coffee and listening to a podcast about new creative urban development ideas.

Now the woman he was low-level obsessed with was on his porch asking if he wanted to have sex before she told him something that would make him not want to have sex with her anymore.

He ran a hand through his hair. This was why Fiona Grady was no good for him.

She came into his carefully controlled and organized life and made things chaotic and messy.

"Are you sick?" he asked.

"Sick? No."

"Dying?"

"No."

"Is anyone dying?"

"No."

"Are you married?" He braced himself. He knew very little about this woman, actually, and if she belonged to someone else, he'd… leave her alone. And hate that man. And never forgive her for stirring him up like this.

"Absolutely not."

"Engaged?"

"No."

Okay, that was all…way too much of a relief. He should not be this happy to hear that.

";Did you kill someone?" he asked.

She tipped her head, her mouth curling. "Is that a definite deal-breaker?"

No, probably not. Knox narrowed his eyes.

"No, I haven't killed anyone."

"Are the Feds looking for you? Or will I be implicated in some kind of crime if I let you in?"

"Not that I'm aware of."

"That's not a no."

"I'm just being honest."

Fair enough. Fiona was a wild animal advocate. The type of person to show up at roadside petting zoos and circuses; to monitor how the animals were treated and hand out literature to people attending the events, raising awareness about the poor conditions and treatment of those animals. She showed up to help rescue and care for animals, wild and domestic, after natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires. She regularly lobbied local, state, and even the national government for animal protections.

The chance that she could have done something in the "gray"  for one of her causes was pretty good.

The problem with that was he knew that wouldn't keep him from wanting her.

She was precisely the kind of woman he should be avoiding.

He studied her face for another long moment, then gave in to the inevitable. He pushed his door open.

"Yeah?" she asked.

"Yeah."

She wasn't dying, wasn't married, and hadn't killed anyone. And he wanted her more than he'd ever wanted another woman in his life. So how was he possibly going to shut the door on her? After three months of missing her? He wasn't that strong. Or stupid.

EXCERPT

Zander turned to look at the woman with a brow up. “Anything else you'd like to tell me?”

She met his eyes directly. She studied him, seemingly thinking over his question.

Finally, she nodded. “Yeah, I think so.”

“Okay. What’s going on?”

“It might take a bit. Want to buy me a drink?” She glanced back toward Ellie’s.

Did he want to take the gorgeous woman in a wedding dress with another man’s ring on her finger who had almost been kidnapped right in front of him back inside his grandmother’s bar where most of his family and a lot of the town was gathered?

He most certainly did not.

“No,” he said simply.

Caroline looked surprised. “Can we”—She looked around—“at least go somewhere else?”

That seemed like a good idea. She was very conspicuous here and his family could, at any moment, come out. And start asking questions. Not to mention that the would-be kidnapper now knew where she was.

“Is there a chance your fiancรฉ is going to come back?” Of course there was. A man didn’t just let this woman go.

She bit her bottom lip and looked up the road. Then she nodded. “Yeah, there’s a chance. Or that he’ll tell someone else where I am.” She looked at Zander again. “But that was my brother. Not my fiancรฉ.”

Oh, that was interesting.

No, it fucking isn’t. Knock it off.

“So, will your fiancรฉ be coming after you?”

“Ex-fiancรฉ.”

Right. She’d mentioned that.

“Okay. Will he come after you?”

She didn’t answer right away. Which Zander also found interesting. Though he shouldn’t. He did not want to be interested in this woman. At all. He didn’t want anyone getting kidnapped while they were in Autre, though, either. Okay, he didn’t really want anyone getting kidnapped, period. But especially while they were in Autre.

“There’s a chance,” Caroline finally admitted. “Or my dad might come. Or my ex-fiancรฉ’s dad might come.”

“And you don’t want to go back with any of them? Is that right?”

“Yes.”

Well, fuck. He had to at least be sure she didn’t get taken anywhere by anyone against her will.

She studied him for a long moment. “So, you’re willing to help me, Officer Landry?”

Her question—and her voice and her eyes and her everything, if he was being honest with himself which he decided to not be—sent a shot of something through Zander's chest.

It was the familiar streak of adrenaline he often felt with his work. It primed his gut to act on instinct when necessary, it made him ready to take on people intent on doing bad things and face potential danger, and it focused his mind. But he also recognized the sliver of trepidation. It wasn’t fear or reluctance. It was…awareness. Like knowing he was about to open a big old can of worms.

But he nodded. “Helping people with problems is kind of my job.”

“Then I would love to tell you what’s going on.”

He wanted that. And it wasn’t the cop in him thinking that.

Fuck. Dammit. Hell. Sonofabitch.

“Okay. Let’s go…someplace your brother doesn’t know about.”

“Like your place?”

Yes. He wanted her at his place. That was the safest. He could definitely keep her safe there. His property was at the end of a dead-end road so the only traffic was trucks he knew. His neighbors were his brothers and cousins. His backyard butted up to the bayou.

But fuck no. He wasn’t taking this woman anywhere near his house. Where his bedroom was.

She was dangerous. He couldn’t sort through all the reasons why at the moment, not while looking into her eyes and wondering how soft her skin was and how silky her hair was, but he had enough self-preservation instinct to keep her away from his house.

“I’m thinking the B & B.”

He grabbed her suitcase and started for his truck.

“But he might think to look there,” she protested. She gathered up her enormous skirts and followed him though.

“I’ll tell Heather not to tell anyone anything about you,” Zander told her, storing her bag behind the front seat and then turning to face her.

Dammit.

Again with the eyes. And hair. And lips. Okay, he hadn’t included the lips in the earlier inventory, but they were great too.

So he liked female lips. Big deal. These were not that exceptional. What the hell was wrong with him?

She’s probably your damned soulmate or some shit and the second you touch her hand you’re going to feel sparks.

I’m not going to feel sparks. That’s a stupid clichรฉ. But I have to get some war biographies. Or maybe something about Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Something about women who are amazing but not sexy. It doesn’t have to be about sexy all the time. Get away from those romance novels.

The thing was, smart, bold women like RBG were sexy in their own way and if Zander had been Ruth’s age and run into her at a bar when she was single, he absolutely would have hit on her.

“Are you okay?” Caroline asked, stepping forward with a slight frown.

He jerked out of his stupid thoughts. “Yeah. I’m fine. You’re the one with the problem.”

Well, that had sounded rude as fuck.

Her eyes widened, but then she nodded. “Yeah. I am. We should definitely work on my problem. It’s going to keep getting bigger if we don’t.”

Zander sighed. He didn’t even know what that meant but…of course it was.

Head Over Hooves- Review and Blog Tour

Head Over Hooves, a must read small town romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Erin Nicholas is available today!

BLURB:

You know in movies where the big city girl lands in a small town for the holidays and falls for the hunky guy who saves Christmas?

This isn’t that story.

But this guy does look fantastic in flannel. And out of flannel…

Finding true love with his one-and-only soul mate? Drew Ryan’s given up on that.

But a hot holiday fling in Louisiana, far from his responsibilities and good guy image back home, is now on the top of his list for Santa.

So when he’s knocked on his ass—literally—by a Christmas elf who’s stealing a sleigh full of gifts and using his reindeer to commit the crime, he definitely doesn’t expect to fall head over heels.

This holiday couldn’t get any worse for Rory Robins.

First, her hair wasn’t supposed to turn green. It’s not even Christmas green.

And the elf costume wasn’t supposed to be two sizes too small.

And her con-man father wasn’t supposed to show up and go all real-life-Grinch on her beloved new hometown.

And she definitely wasn’t supposed to run into anyone while trying to fix the problem.

Especially not the hunky guy who already seems too good to be true.

But he does have a way of making her "cocoa" even hotter and a whole lot sweeter...

Still, he lives in Iowa. The only good thing her father ever gave her was a healthy distrust of men who are never around. She’s not doing a long-distance thing.

This little fling is only going to last as long as the temporary color of her hair.

Only nothing seems to be fading. And she might be asking Santa for just one more thing…

My Rating: 4 Stars

Drew Ryan is in Autre, Louisiana to help out one of his friend's and bring a few reindeer for their Santa's Village at Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild Animal Park and refuge. While he's there he is going to try and shed himself of the good guy image and find a woman to help him have a holiday fling. This is also the same Drew that was in the Hot Cakes series! As he's hanging around Santa's Village he sees a woman with green hair dressed as a skimpy elf chasing around eight goats and becomes instantly intrigued by her.

Rory is doing her best to show the Landry's that she can pull off taking care of Santa's Village. She wasn't expecting her green hair or the elf outfit that was two sizes too small, but she has a job to do and she will do it well. She wasn't expecting Drew to be young, hot and charming when he dropped off the reindeers but she won't let herself go after him because he isn't a local and she wants to stay in the small town of Autre. After all, it's on her list to stay here and try to become part of the Landry crew. The only problem is that sparks appear whenever she looks at Drew. Add in the fact that her conman father is trying to ruin Christmas, she just doesn't have time to deal with any other complications.

I enjoyed both Drew and Rory's characters in this book. I fell hard for Drew in Gimme S'more and while you don't have to read that book to understand Drew's character, I would highly recommend it because I love that book so much! I felt bad for Rory and how hard she worked just to try and fit in without realizing she had friends in the Bayou and how much her dad was a jerk. You also get to see more of our favorite Bayou characters in this story. If you loved any of Erin's books, you will love this one. I love the quirky stories from the Landry's, crazy animals, a bad santa story, and just the craziness that usually follows the Landry family around.
