My Review:

My Rating: 4 Stars

Lyric is the new road manager for the band that Wolf plays after just being betrayed by her ex boyfriend who is also a rock star. As soon as Lyric and Wolf meet the chemistry explodes, except Lyric won't be falling for another rock star, thank you very much and Wolf is not looking for a girlfriend. Lyric has grown up with music and while Wolf is the typical rock star, once you peel back the layers you realize Wolf is anything but average.

I enjoyed watching the two get to know each other and fight their attraction and feelings. Through music, lyrics and being around each other the two become closer until it gets harder to try and fight why they shouldn't be together and get together. The only problem is that both have pasts that have shaped them into who they are and there are still secrets between them. Will they learn to trust each other or is it for nothing? After all, trust is hard to give someone after you've been betrayed and without trust your relationship is doomed to fail.

This story focuses mostly on Lyric and Wolf, but the secondary characters help move the story around. I enjoyed meeting the other band members and the other characters. There is one character who I knew right away was bad news, but I didn't know they would go as far as they did! Sorry not giving away anything spoilerish! I did not read these books before this duet was release, but one of the great things about this duet is that it has an extended epilogue and a missing scene at the end. K.K. Allen's writing will suck you into her world and then keep you there until you are finished with the book. I will definitely keep requesting arcs from this author!

Through The Lens-Review

BLURB:

"He thought I was his muse. Turned out, he was mine too."

Maggie Stevens is done feeling objectified.

After spending her entire life in the spotlight and climbing the high fashion ranks as a model in LA, she’s willing to leave it all behind for a fresh start. Moving to Seattle seems like the perfect solution.

A clean slate.
New adventures.
Endless opportunities.

All is going according to plan. Until she meets the drop-dead gorgeous cooking instructor who delights in adding to her misery.

Desmond Blake is determined to make a name for his culinary school—one that speaks to his hard work and undeniable passion.

When his food photography hobby garners attention from an unexpected source, his dreams are finally within reach. The obstacle he never sees coming is the sharp-tongued bombshell with a distaste for all he stands for.

When Desmond accidentally captures a photo of Maggie during a moment of weakness, he starts to see there’s more to the fashionista than meets the eye…

Sometimes what can be seen through the lens is a skewed version of reality. A bent perspective. Manufactured, therefore losing all sense of authenticity. And sometimes all it takes is a different angle to see what’s right in front of you.

After deciding to leave Modeling Maggie decides to go live with her sister in Seattle while she tries to figure out who she is and her place in the world. Her sister, Monica, ends up dragging Maggie to a cooking school where Desmond teaches them how to cook. Maggie and Desmond start off rocky with both thinking the other is not worth their time or friendship. Unfortunately Maggie's sister and Desmond's best friend are dating so the two are forced to spend time together. As they both get to know each other better they realize neither is who they originally thought.

I really enjoyed this story. Maggie and Desmond were both a little broken from their past and in different ways. They had to struggle with getting to know who the other really was and they both had to confront their past. This actually wasn't angsty and more of a mutual dislike to friendship to something else. There was a little humor, heat, a will they won't they and genuine respect for the other person by the end. This is a standalone book but it does connect with two of the other books but you don't need to read them in order to understand the character's because I didn't know until after that Monica had her own book. I would recommend this story if you are looking for a good contemporary romance.

My Review:
My Rating: 4 Stars

The Trouble with Gravity is a book from a series, but can be read as a standalone. Kai is just trying to do her best at living her life and dancing her heart out. She auditions for a new show that ends up changing her life and making her face old fears.

Sebastian is the "bad boy of Broadway" at least that's what everyone says, but deep down he is just a closed off book waiting for the right person to unfold his pages. When Kai and Sebastian first meet, it's not a happy meeting, but after he sees her dance he knows she needs to be his Grace in the play Angst and Grace. Now he just has to convince Kai to take the part.

I liked the relationship between Kai and Bash. It was not as angsty as the other book I read by K.K. Allen. This was a slow burn romance that at times felt a little too slow, but made up for it once it started going. Both characters had scars from their past that they had to face in order to be the best versions of themselves. This was marketed as a enemies to lovers romance and while I could see how some people may think that, to me Kai and Sebastian were never really enemies. They just didn't care for the other in the beginning. I liked that Sebastian helped Kai face her fears and I liked that Kai helped Sebastian open up. I was glad to see that Kai was a strong heroine that when someone did or said something she didn't just automatically agree with it. She fought her own battles and she didn't swoon just because Sebastian was a hot aussie. She made him work for her and for them.

Defying Gravity by K.K. Allen- Excerpt and giveaway

Excerpt:

She ran a hand through my hair, roughing it at the top, while I gazed at her, soaking in the way her light-green eyes looked almost brown in the dim overhead lights. “I guess this is goodbye, huh?”

I shook my head as my brows pulled together. “No.”

“Tobias,” she said, her tone soft and scolding.

“It’s not.” I searched her expression, praying I wasn’t being an idiot. All this time together, the nights we’d shared, the secrets we’d kept. It couldn’t only be me. I swallowed. “The way I see it, I’ll be focused on basketball, and you’ll have dance. That doesn’t mean we can’t talk. That doesn’t mean we’ll never see each other again.”

She looked lost in her thoughts for a minute, and I knew she was considering my words. “So, what? We’re long-distance … friends?”

I leaned forward, placing my forehead against hers. “You know as well as I that you can’t put a label on what we are. We’re just Amelia and Tobias. We’re moon and earth, living among the stars and sun. We’re everything. And no matter the distance, we still make sense together.”

Her next breath hitched as she sucked it in. “That’s beautiful, but gravity weakens with distance, remember?”

I shook my head, refusing to accept her point. “Not when it comes to us.” I swallowed around the thickness building in my throat. “Not when we defy gravity.”

I kissed her hard, pulling her body close while her mouth molded to mine. We fit so well, not even she could deny that. And she didn’t. Not when I stripped her of her clothes and lay her down. Not when I buried my head between her legs and stroked her devilishly with my tongue. And not when my fingers pushed inside her, working her center until she screamed my name like it was a curse word.

A layer of sweat coated her body when I pulled her into my arms and wrapped her legs around my waist. Our mouths stayed on each other as I walked her to her bedroom and placed her on her bed. I yanked my clothes off next and kicked them to the side before sitting at the edge of her bed and pulling a condom from her nightstand. My cock was hard as stone as I rolled it on, already missing the feel of her wrapped around me.

And when I hovered above her, fitting myself to her body and readying myself for that first thrust, I leaned in to steal another kiss before placing my mouth on her ear. “I’ll find my way back to you, Amelia.” I bit down on tender skin and nudged against her entrance, relishing the moan that slipped past her throat. “I’m about to make sure you don’t forget that.”

Defying Gravity- Review

Defying Gravity by K.K. Allen

Synopsis:

Our greatest risk was the one we never took …

It was an accidental spring fling three years ago, one week in the mountains of Big Sur, and no one was the wiser. Ignore the fact that Tobias James was my neighbor and my best friend’s older brother. Or that upon our return, his hoop dreams were waiting for him, robbing us of any future we might have shared.

Now, I’m fulfilling my own dreams in LA, and my biggest dream of all is about to come true. The last thing I expected was for my past and my present to collide. Not now. Not here. Not him. But he struts back into my life like he never even left. Unfortunately, I’ll never forget what happened the time he did.

The ball is in my court, but Tobias isn’t above stealing—my power, my resolve, my heart. When he wants a second chance to reignite our connection, my answer is simple—we can’t.

Not unless we defy the rules our dreams are built on … and risk everything.

My Review:

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review. I am obsessed with siblings older brother romances and best friends brother romances right now. I did not read Falling from Gravity, which is a prequel to this book beforehand and I wish I would have. It's free on Amazon right now too! This book can be read alone, however you will connect with the characters better I think if you read the prequel and understand better how Tobias and Amelia got together in the first place. Tobias wants to be a basketball star for the NBA, while Amelia wants to be a dancer and in order to achieve their dreams they have to be separated for awhile. I enjoyed the second chance romance and that the book was not full of angst. Amelia and Tobias have a relationship that is on a roller coaster, but it feels genuine. They both make mistakes, they both care for each other and they both want the other to achieve their dreams. Sometimes the journey to get back together is not as smooth as you want it to be. Overall, I liked how at one point both the characters fought for what they wanted. If you are looking for a second chance, sports romance without a lot of angst this is the book for you. I just highly recommend reading the prequel first and I will be doing that soon!
