No one knew about the secrets that kept me awake at night.

Wicked Lies, an all-new enemies-to-lovers standalone romance from  USA Today bestselling author Renee Harless is available now!

BLURB:

I had a new life.

One that I fought for.

One that I lied for.

One that I would do anything to protect.

No one knew about the secrets that kept me awake at night.

I fought tooth and nail to keep everyone at arm’s length.

Until a woman I hadn’t seen since childhood showed up on my doorstep.

Keeley Fox wanted answers, but all that I could give her were lies.

Lies that would shield her from the nastiness of my past. A past that collided with hers and could destroy the pretty world that she lived in.

One push from her became too much and I savored her downfall, except she took me down with her.

Now I was exposed to all of Wellington University and that reputation I had built was a pile of bricks at my feet.

The greatest lie of all was that love was worth the fight.

Excerpt

I waited for her to finish her phone call before making her aware of my presence.

Leaning against the jamb of her door, I crossed my arms against my chest with her notebook tucked protectively between my hands.

Deep in my chest a laugh began to bubble up, and I had to fight to push it down as her back stiffened while placing her phone on the now empty desk.

“What’s the matter, Keeley? Missing something?”

“No. . .I. . .” she said with hunched shoulders as she slowly turned to face me.

“Are you sure?” I asked as I pushed away from the door and stepped closer to her with the notebook opened. “I found this amazing book with a bucket list of sorts.”

“Give it back!” she said as she lunged for it, only for my height to thwart her attempt as I held the notebook above her head.

“No. I think I’ll hang onto it a bit longer.”

“Chance, please. You shouldn’t have gone through my things. It’s a violation!”

Shrugging my shoulders, I simply replied, “my apartment.”

“God, don’t be such an asshole and just give it back.”

“But I like being an asshole, it brings out this fiery side in you, little mouse.”

“Gah!” she exclaimed as she jumped for the notebook again, only for her fingertips to scrape the bottom of the book barely. “What do you even want it for?”

“I don’t know. Light reading? Maybe I’ll give it back when I’m done.”

“You know what?” she stated with her hands in fists resting at her hips. She looked like a deranged Wonder Woman. “Keep it. I don’t care. I have other things to do.

Important things. Things that matter. Unlike you who seems to have nothing better to do than bed every woman you come in contact with.”

“Everyone but you,” I chimed in. “I don’t do users.”

“User? Excuse me?”

“Yeah. Used my brother for his hospitality, used your father for a job, I’m sure the list goes on and on.”

“I didn’t. . .you know what? I don’t need to explain myself to you. If you don't mind, I have a project to work on, and then I have dinner plans. Please get out. I’ll have some sort of rent for you by the end of the day. Maybe that will keep you from going through my things.”

The tips of my fingernails dug into the roughened skin of my palms as I clenched my fists. Something about Keeley’s words triggered a recollection, a memory that had been safely tucked away in a locked box. It was from a past event, the time when my world was flipped upside down, and I was forced to be someone else. I had been five someone else’s since I was born.

I clenched my eyes shut as I stood in her doorway, praying for the blackness to wash away the images of bags, toys, and clothes. I couldn’t figure out why it seemed so familiar.

A soft hand pressed against my bare forearm and I jerked back like she had scalded me with a branding iron.

“Are you okay? You look sick?”

“Don’t fucking touch me,” I seethed, unable to pull myself from the grip of the false reality I had found myself in. “You don’t get to lay a hand on me, mouse. I’ll leave your shit alone when I feel like it.”

She crossed her arms and stood toe to toe against me. If I weren’t so fucked in my own head, I’d probably take a moment to realize that she was quite attractive when she was fired up with her pink cheeks and narrowed gaze.

“Fine, then it seems like that gives me permission to go through yours. Make sure you don’t have any skeletons in that closet, Chance, because I’m going to find them all.”

Stepping back, I tossed the book inside her room, the thick covers landing with a bounce on her bed. Leaning down, the tip of my nose pressed against hers as I said, “No skeletons, just a few notches in that bedpost. But a goodie girl like you wouldn’t know a damn thing about that, would ya? You’re too busy doing what everyone tells you. This little bucket list of yours is the only secret that you have.”

“Just stay out of my way this semester, got it?”

My Review:

My Rating: 2.5 Stars

Chase and Keeley end up being forced roommates and right from the start Chase doesn't like Keeley or want her in what he feels is his apartment. Keeley is just trying to stay there so she can continue going to her classes before she takes over her father's business. I was surprised that the synopsis didn't really fit with how this story unfolded. I didn't really understand what made Chase decide not to be a jerk to Keeley because it just happened in the blink of an eye. There were some definitely steamy scenes that I enjoyed and didn't seem repetitive like in many other stories, but I felt like this book just moved to fast and the story line was just rushed to fit in so many chapters when instead the author should have added more details to show instead of telling different parts of the story. As I stated I liked the idea of the book, but I just couldn't connect to either of the characters and I wish the author would have shown more of the story instead of just telling what happened.

The Troublemaker- Release Blitz and Review!

The Troublemaker by Claire Contreras is now live!

BLURB:

The last thing I thought I'd be doing my last semester was following my ex-boyfriend around, but here I am. I was assigned to write an article about college athletes and he's the biggest one in our town. With this assignment comes a new living arrangement that sets me up in an apartment right next to his.

As if it's not bad enough that our parents remained friends after our breakup, now there's no escaping him. I wake up, I see Mitch. I work out, I see Mitch. I'm trying to go to bed, I see Mitch. What's worse is that he keeps asking me out and I'm finding it harder to say no. I just hope I can turn in this final assignment without losing my heart.

Again.

My Review:
My Rating: 2.5 Stars

Misty is an aspiring journalist who was just assigned to write an article about college athletes, but just any college athlete but her ex boyfriend Mitch and his two friends. It wouldn't be so bad except Mitch was her first love and first heartbreak at 17. Now the two are in their last year of college and while Mitch wants to be in the MLB he wants Misty back too. Part of this assignment forces Misty to live next door to the boys and Mitch will use every weapon in his arsenal to show her they would be even better together this time.

This was a cute premise except I just didn't connect to either Misty or Mitch. Misty didn't seem to want anything to do with Mitch and kept rejecting him until one moment it was like let me get him out of my system. I also was hoping for more of her stressing about her article and it playing a bigger part of the book, but that was not the case. I also didn't see the chemistry between the two and wish I could have seen more of the longing between them and more of the build up of Misty forgiving Mitch for breaking her heart and character growth of Misty and Mitch. Overall, this was a fast paced book, but I just didn't care much about the characters. Again, I will say different people will love different books and if this seems like a good blurb for something you would like give it a shot, it just wasn't the book for me.

Undeniable- Review!!

Rating: 2.5 Stars

Anna's best friend Spencer wants her to pretend to date her older brother Blake so Spencer can date a guy she likes. After a little begging Anna decides to give in even though she doesn't have a crush on Blake anymore. This was a light, easy read with a little drama and a little chemistry.  I liked the idea of this story and the reason why Spencer wanted them to fake date. I read a lot of friends dating best friends older brothers and this was a different take on the genre. There were quite a few inconsistencies that I think an editor should have caught better. Both Blake and Anna change what they want to study multiple times throughout the book without giving the reader a reason why they changed their mind. I thought the author tried to make Blake too complicated in that he works at a bar, but is super shy and still has girls falling over him. I thought Anna was a little insecure, but again she is only in high school.

At times Anna and Spencer were very juvenile, but it might be because they were only 18. I think this book would have been better with dual point of view so you could see what Blake was thinking and how he was reacting to everything. I think if you just need a short best friends brother romance that only has a little steam this might be for you. Not every book is going to work for every person and other readers on goodreads really seemed to enjoy this one.

* I did receive an arc so I hope that the final product fixes the formatting and missing words every once in awhile.*

The Player Next Door-Review!!

From the international bestselling author of The Simple Wild and Ten Tiny Breaths comes a new second-chance, hate-to-love romance.

The Player Next Door by, USA Today bestselling author, K.A. Tucker, is now live!

BLURB:

Scarlet Reed has returned to Polson Falls, convinced that twelve years away is long enough to shed her humiliating childhood identity as the town harlot's daughter. With a teaching job secured and an adorable fixer-upper to call home, things in her life are finally looking up.

That is, until she finds out that Shane Beckett lives next door.
Shane Beckett, the handsome and charismatic high school star quarterback who smashed her heart. The lying, cheating player who was supposed to be long gone, living the pro football dream and fooling women into thinking he's Prince Charming. Shane Beckett, who is as attractive as ever and flashing his dimples at her as if he has done no wrong.

Scarlet makes it abundantly clear that old wounds have not been forgotten. Neighbors they may be, but friends they most certainly are not. She won't allow herself to fall for the single father and firefighter again, no matter how many apologies he offers, how many times he rushes to her aid, or how hard he makes her heart pound.
But as she spends more time with him, she begins to fear that maybe she's wrong.

Maybe Shane has changed.

And maybe this time she's the one playing herself—out of a chance at true happiness.

My Review:
My Rating: 2.5 Stars

Scarlet just moved back to her hometown after 12 years to teach middle school. She bought the house she always admired when she was younger and who could be her next door neighbor but Shane Beckett, her ex. She thought he had moved away and was playing football, but now he's a sexy, single father and a firefighter. How can she resist?

There were quite a few things I didn't are for, but what I did like was Shane. He was mature, put his child first and tried to do the right thing as an adult. I thought the kid was for the most part a true representation for a kid his age. There were a few moments I actually did like Scarlet, but they were few and far between. I think I just didn't understand her a lot of the time. I liked some of the side characters, but wish they would have been flushed out more.

I wanted to love this story, but I just didn't. I felt Scarlet was too whiny and acted super immature for her age. I didn't feel the connection she had with Shane from high school. I wish the author would have shown us more glimpses of how they were in high school because I didn't feel Shane's betrayal as more than just him being a stupid teenager. I wish we would have seen more of Scarlet and her mom's relationship. I didn't understand how Scarlet flipped so much when she went to college as to how she was in high school. I would have liked the author to make this dual point of view so we could see Shane's point of view through this story because at times Scarlet gave me whiplash with her emotions and I would have liked to see what Shane thought of everything. I felt the ending was rushed and would have benefited from an epilogue or a few chapters to make it feel less abrupt.

Overall, this book was not bad but it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. There was a lot of drama that I think took precedence over the second chance romance. As I said before though not every person is going to like the same books and this one just didn't have me connect to the story or characters as much as other books I've read.

Linden is a reporter for the Examiner who is still trying to make a big name for herself. Jack is the seasoned reporter who works next to Linden and is very focused on his career. When Linden gets a call at the newspaper and ends up interviewing a person she finds a huge story that could help make her career. The only problem is that is falls under Jacks "beat". Now the two are forced to work together when they don't get along.

Honestly I did not care for Linden one bit. She makes accusations with no evidence to back them up and acts like a brat when things don't go her way. Linden is so hot and cold with Jack at times, I'm surprised he still wanted her. She keeps talking about how she couldn't handle a career and a boyfriend at the same time and was constantly late to work. If I was working a job I loved I would constantly try to be better and make sure I got to work on time, however after being late a few times she finally realized how important it was to get to work early. I did like that she grew through the book even though sometimes I felt she needed to grow more in order to be with Jack.

I didn't hate Jack, but I didn't love him either. We were showed he was ambitious and really hot, but I just never really felt much for his character. It might be we only saw snippets of his life and how focused he was on his work that I just never connected to him.

I did like that this book had a slow burn romance leading to the two getting together. I felt the author threw too much descriptions at things and should have instead showed the hatred between Linden and Jack more through actions than words. I did look up this author on Goodreads and saw she has only posted two books and I think with flushing out her characters more and showing verses telling she has the potential to be a great storyteller. To me this book just fell a little flat, but other reviewers on Goodreads enjoyed it so remember not everyone is going to like the same books and that's okay! Plus I have included an excerpt so you guys can decide if you like this author's writing or not.

Excerpt:

“So why the little performance for Chad?"

“Sometimes it helps to stir the pot.” The glimmer of a smile forms, like he’s playing a game of chess and just made a bold opening.

“Oh.” I’m not sure what to say, which is unusual for me.

“That’s all you got?”

“Um, well, I have questions.”

“Of course, you do; you’re a reporter.”

I take a step back and stare at him, backlit by twinkle lights that cast a flattering glow on his already-beautiful face. “Are you going to answer them?”

He shrugs. “You haven’t asked anything yet. Is that how you usually go about your reporting? You just wait for the other person to answer questions you haven’t even posed?”

“Just when I thought I might like you a tiny bit, you have to ruin it, don’t you?”

His smile is a smirk now and he reaches for my hand, pulling me a little closer.

“You like me? ”he asks, his voice a quiet rumble.

“I’m still deciding.”

Then he whispers, “Let me help you decide.” He leans his face an inch closer to mine but doesn’t close the gap between us. A chill runs through me as my body responds to him, betraying the logical part of my brain that says I need to focus on my job and only my job. The only clear thought I have right now is how much I want to feel his lips on mine again. But he’s still inches away, holding out, not willing to give me what I want until I meet him partway.

“I think…Chad seems like the kind of guy who needs a lot of convincing before he decides he has no chance.”

“So, for the sake of a good story…” I say, moving an inch closer but stopping before my lips meet his so he knows I’m in control of my emotions. Even though I’m not.

“…I know how important good journalism is to you,” he says. I can feel his breath like a breeze across my face. It’s hypnotizing and I struggle to keep from closing my eyes and giving in to what I want.

“I’m one hundred percent devoted to the craft.”It’s a struggle to get the words out when I can barely breathe.

“I’m happy to help however I can.”Our faces are mere inches apart and I feel pulled closer, unable to resist the magnetic force of his lips. I tip my head up and feel his lips melt into mine, pressing gently but intentionally. It’s sweet but urgent. Tongues that can’t get nearly enough, lips that want to consume. This isn’t a sweet fake-date kiss.

This is a year and a half of working together and wanting to hate him but hating how much I wanted him, all tangled up in a kiss that can’t last long enough.

Meet Stacy

It’s a rough world out there, and we all sometimes need a good, romantic beach read, even if we can’t make it to the beach. I’ve spent many lazy days walking the streets of Paris and other gorgeous European cities, and if I’m doing it right, I’m bringing you a dash of romance and a vacay fantasy.

I can’t sit still, so when I’m not hiking, biking or running, I’m playing a very average game of tennis. Background music for writing undoubtedly features some U2, Lizzo, Billy Joel, Pink, Taylor Swift, and Led Zeppelin. Not necessarily in that order. And if I could only eat one food group, it would be cheese. Or wine. Or bread. Are those food groups? Whatever.

This is a free prequel for Rachel's new series Mafia Royals, which is a spin off of the Eagle Elite series. This story introduces new audience members to the Eagle Elite crew while showing their children and the mafia world that Rachel has created. This novella follows the love story of Asher and Claire, while getting readers ready for the first full length book of the new series Ruthless Princess, which follow Serena and Junior.

I love Rachel's work normally and because of that it's hard to rate this book so low. I will say I normally struggle with novellas because authors try to fit so much in that it ends up falling short for me usually. This story was featured in Rachel's newsletter awhile ago and so this ended up being the second time I read this story. Now she has changed things and edited it so things are a little different than the first time I read it. I felt the relationship between Asher and Claire was too rushed. I felt that Claire really never understood what exactly she was getting into until she had already committed to Asher and his families lifestyle. Asher and Claire's relationship is like a rocket with a short fuse. Someone lights the fuse while you aren't looking and all of a sudden it's taken off and you are wondering what happened. This leads to my rating because while their relationship is supposed to be the main focus you are more curious about the secondary characters.

I did enjoy the intense scenes of this book. You can feel how much Asher loves his family and the impact his family has had on his life. I enjoyed watching Serena and Junior and how much they feel for each other until a incident that Asher and Claire put the duo through. I love the word choices Rachel uses and how intense her sex scenes are written. I loved seeing the characters from the Eagle Elite series and how they haven't changed that much from the last book even though they are all parents now.

Overall, I didn't love this book and I think if it would have been longer and gone more in-depth with Claire and Asher's story I would have liked it better. The way it was written with them I never really connected with Claire and the reason I connected with Asher at all was because of how he was with his family.

Waiting for My Queen Review

BLURB:

Emilia—
All I’ve ever wanted was to marry for love.
But girls like me don’t have that luxury.
We are used as pawns in a game we can’t control.
The game? It’s called Mafia.
I was foolish enough to try to change the rules… and I lost.

Luca—
She was promised to me years ago.
And he dared to take her from me.
Dared to touch what was mine.
I put an end to that.
I hope he’s enjoying the view from his dirt room.

Emilia—
My beloved’s killer placed a ruby ring on my finger and called me his queen.
But that red gem symbolizes something different for me.
It represents the blood shed by those I love most.
Hell was empty the day we wed.
Because the devil was standing before me and said “I do.”

Luca—
I saw her as a possession.
A shiny toy I didn’t want other boys to play with.
But she’s so much more.
Beautiful and brave and strong and broken all at once.
She tastes like everything I’ve ever wanted.

Emilia—
Hidden and patient.
I wait for the perfect time to seek my revenge.
But slowly, I feel him possessing me.
His heart is full of darkness… and I still want every inch of him.
Hard as I try, I can’t escape loving this beautiful monster.

Luca—
I’m waiting patiently because I already know that she’s mine.
Mine in a way that no one will ever understand.
Even if she hasn’t yet realized it.
For love, I’d do anything.
For her, I’d do everything.

My Rating: 2.5 stars

Luca is promised to marry Emilia since they were little, except during the time they were growing up Emilia fell in love with someone else. Now she wants to marry the man she loves and not Luca. When Luca finds out he kills her beloved and so begins the story of Luca and Emilia. With this being a mafia romance I thought we would see more violence, but I feel we hear more than see anything even with the dual point of view. I never hated Luca either, he just at times annoyed me as did Emilia. I felt that the relationship between Emilia and Luca seemed to move pretty fast and Luca really did not have to do a lot of groveling. I guess I expected more hate and more violence with this being a mafia book. For a mafia book this one seemed kinda tame. This book also takes place in the 1970's and I am honestly not sure why it did. The author just seemed to pick a time where cell phones weren't important and thought okay I will have the story take place now. The year really doesn't matter to the story line.  It's a fast story, but as far as mafia stories go this was not my favorite.

My Review:
My Rating: 2.5 stars

I was offered an arc in exchange for my honest opinion. I rate this book 2.5 stars. Gracie decides to go out and have a one night stand after celebrating her birthday. The next morning Gracie sneaks out of the room only to come face to face with Drew at a meeting at work where she finds out he just bought the company she works for. I love forbidden office romance, but this book just moved too fast to truly show the forbidden aspects of a office romance.

Drew knows what he wants and he wants Gracie, no matter that she has reservations. There were times I felt Drew just railroaded Gracie to do what he wants. Gracie did not stand up for herself very often and when she did Drew would say a few words and she would give in. This book was very insta-love and I wish Gracie would have stood up to him more. There was not a lot of angst and the very little there was did not take a long time to resolve.

I did like the way the writer made this book flow. This book would have had higher stars without the controllingness of Drew and the insta-love. I really enjoyed the side characters of Jaime and Aaron. I liked how Aaron was introduced and how we saw the relationship between him and Drew. Overall, I just don't think this was the best book for me.
