Stealing Her- Review

Stealing Her by Rachel Van Dyken
Covet Series #1

Synopsis:

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author comes an unexpected love story of family, secrets, and the most intimate of deceptions.

My estranged twin brother, Julian, was always the wonder boy—and soon-to-be CEO of our ruthless father’s corporation. My mother and me? Left behind. Now, years after tearing our family apart, my father dares to ask me for a favor? Pretend to be Julian while he fights to survive a tragic accident. It can save the company. Nobody will be the wiser. It’ll be our secret.

I can play Dad’s favorite. I’ll do it for Julian. And for my mother, who’ll want for nothing.

But this double life comes with a beauty of a hitch: my very real feelings for Julian’s fiancĂ©e, Isobel. Not only am I betraying Julian, I’m deceiving a woman I love. She doesn’t suspect a thing. As lies compound, lines are crossed and loyalties tested, all I can ask myself is…what have I done?

Because sooner or later something’s got to give. There’s no way I’m giving up Isobel. But once the truth is exposed, it might not be my choice at all.

My Review:
My Rating: 3.5 Stars

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review. This book for me was only 3.5 stars. Rachel is one of my favorite authors..so I feel bad not loving this book, but I felt the relationship between Bridge and Izzy's relationship just felt too fast and forced. I also didn't like how Izzy was supposed to be this smart strong woman and didn't realize that Bridge, who is more muscular and a few other things wasn't Julian. I think for me the first part of this book dragged, but the second part kicked up a bit and I felt it was better. I might be in the minority here, but I also felt bad for Julian. We only know what Izzy and Bridge knew and I feel like some of the stuff they knew wasn't the whole truth. I will say by the end of the book I was rooting for Bridge and Izzy. They were both flawed, but fit well together.

Bodyguard to the Billionaire Review

Synopsis:

Derrick Arlington is one of the world's most eligible billionaires. Voted Sexiest Man Alive—two years running.

‪And I just so happen to look exactly like him.

‪It’s never came in handy until I get offered an actual job out of it.

‪It was supposed to be so simple.

‪Go to the Winston Isles, stand in as his body double for a few weeks, go back to my life.

‪But when our carefully constructed plan goes awry and the billionaire goes missing, I have no choice but to take his place and hire a bodyguard. The best in the business: a smart-mouthed, tight-assed, lady bodyguard.

‪Zia Barnes is the LAST thing I want, even if I need her. She's determined, smart, and has no idea I'm a total imposter.

‪Good thing I have no intention on falling for her, or I'd be royally screwed.

My Review:
Rating: 4 stars

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review. Nana Malone was a new to me author this summer and one I just can't stop reading! This duet begins with Theo aka Derrick Arlington's body double. Theo is supposed to keep a low profile and just pretend to be Derrick for a month. It doesn't seem so hard until he has to get a bodyguard and not just any bodyguard, but one he is attracted to not only for her looks but for her personality. Zia tried to help Derrick before and he did not seem to want her help until she gets assigned to be his bodyguard. She doesn't want to turn down the job so she just puts her feelings and pride aside and treat him like any other assignment. That doesn't last long when the chemistry starts to flare between these two. The only problem is Derrick isn't really Derrick and when secrets are consistently getting in the way will the two come together or break apart? This book had great sexual tension, brought in the other characters from her previous books, and even though I guessed pieces of the book it still ended on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the second part of the duet. Read below for a excerpt from the first book.

EXCERPT

“Get rid of her, or she comes with us.”

“I’m not going anywhere, buddy.” I jabbed him in the chest in an attempt to create more space. In close combat with this guy, I’d lose. Sure, I was faster and nimbler. But one good hit and I’d be down.

His sharp, slashing brows drew down. “Suit yourself. I know what to do with someone like you.”

I’d bet he did. And none of those things included me sleeping in my warm cozy bed tonight. “Babe, come on the royal family wants a photo.”

Gray Eyes arched a brow. “Darling, you go ahead I’ll meet you there.” His voice was sin and bad decisions mixed together.

I stood my ground. Now was no time for him to be noble. “Oh, I know King Sebastian insists.”

“I’ll have to pass, love.”

“Yeah, you heard him, he’ll have to —”

He was talking and also raising his right arm. All I saw was the black gleam, and I acted, launching myself in the air and slamming against Gray Eyes. Toppling him over and covering his body with mine, tranq gun raised.

Wasting no time, I squeezed twice. The asshole about to shoot at us was big. Who knew if two doses would be enough? But I was prepared to run.
The muscle-bound brute fell to his knees. I rolled on my back, ready for anything.

But I didn’t need to worry. Two hits with the tranq had done the job.
I sucked in a shuddering breath.

When I turned to my bed of muscles, he was glaring at me. “Do you have a bloody death wish?”
His voice had lost some of the sin quality. It was colder, like he was pissed.

I pushed to my feet. “What? You wanted me to let you go with that asshole? He was going to kill you.”

“I promise you, I’m quite capable.”

Unbelievable. “You could have fooled me. Men wielding weapons and shoving you into a car are generally bad news.”

His gaze narrowed as he glowered at me. “I had it under control.”

I crossed my arms. “Oh, so you're delusional. Okay then. Goodbye, crazy. And P.S. You're welcome.”

“You generally only say thank you when you’re glad someone did something.”

I shook my head. “For fuck’s sake. Next time I’ll let you die then. Pity. You look expensive, like someone would miss you, but it’s no skin off my back. I’ll just let the homicidal asshole kill you when he wakes up.”

“You could have been hurt. Did you pay attention to what just happened?”

“You mean besides me putting on a display of badassery the likes of which you’ve never seen? I also made this couture look damn good. Oh yes… and saved your ass.”

“My ass didn’t need saving, princess.”

“I’m not a princess, asshole. I’m a King’s Knight. I don’t need anybody to save me. Have a nice life.” As I strutted off, I flipped him the bird.

My Review:
Rating: 4 Stars

I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the last book of the Eagle Elite series and the first book in the Elite Bratva Brotherhood Series. This book follows Andrei, the Russian Mob boss who works along side the Italians. This book was darker than the others and as Rachel grows as a writer, her books show that. I was hesitant to start this, because when I was reading the Eagle Elite series I was not a huge fan of Andrei. Rachel changed that. She creates these characters that you think are just jerks and shows the broken pieces of them that make you fall in love and want to protect. If you read Phoenix's book, Andrei is very similar to Phoenix with how broken he is. Seeing the trauma that Andrei went through I understood why he was the way he was and how much he hated that part of him. I love that the Italian men we have come to love play a big role in this book and even though it is the start of a new series I would highly suggest reading the Eagle Elite Series before you start this one to help you understand why they hate the DeLanges and just getting to know the Italian men. Andrei's friendship with the Italian men is hilarious and adds a lightness to this book that was needed.

Now the romance. The romance is not sugar coated, it's raw and real. "That's the thing about love. We don't fall in love with the perfect person; we fall in love despite a person's imperfections." Neither Alice nor Andri are perfect, but they are perfect for each other. Alice goes into the relationship with Andrei knowing that he is a beast and not a good guy. I'm glad Rachel didn't write Alice with her eyes closed to all the evils of the world because if she did Alice would not be the right woman for Andrei. Their relationship is intense and at times frustrating.

Overall, this was a great start to a new series and I can't wait to see where Rachel takes all these characters. She has set up the next book perfectly and I am excited to see what she has in store for everyone.

Only Work, No Play Release Blitz- Review to come February 23rd!!

 Only Work, No Play Synopsis:

After two years of taking care of her heartbroken father, Evie needs a new start. Leaving the States and following her sister to Australia to work as the personal assistant of rugby star Xavier – The Beast – Stevens seems like the right kind of distraction.

Tall, muscled and devilishly handsome, Xavier is the lov’ em and leav’ em kind of guy. He never forgets a girl’s name because he never bothers to remember it in the first place.

Evie soon realizes that being Xavier’s assistant is a 24/7 job; the man seems unwilling to even set an alarm for himself.

As she watches him move from one woman to the next, Evie is glad that her heart is safe from his attention. After all, she’s a far cry from the size zero models he usually takes to his bed.

But soon being around Xavier doesn’t feel like a job, and seeing him walk around his apartment half naked all the time isn’t helping either. Evie knows that giving in to her attraction will lead to heartbreak, but when Xavier starts treating her as more than just his assistant, resisting his charms seems like an impossible task.
